Here’s to showing up as your best self in 2026! If not for yourself, for your horse!!

Great for any equestrian, but especially people who are struggling with confidence, struggling with motivation and or are just a bit overwhelmed!

It’s got me through hard times with rehab, then early retirement and now bringing my youngster into work!

Save this post to remember these questions and like, comment and share to ensure the help gets spread to someone else who needs it!

Next time you experience difficult behaviour with your horse stop and ask yourself these questions and answer them HONESTLY, you will realise that your horse is acting the way he is for a valid reason! As owners, it’s our responsibility to ensure we think past our human reasons.

That right! I’m looking to interview you!

Have you got an inspiring story about you and a horse you have currently or have been lucky to know in the past?

Would you like to help other people in the horse world?

In sharing your story, you could inspire another person to stick the rough days with their horse.

I’m currently looking for people who, like me, love horses and want to help shift the equestrian community into a more positive, supportive space, through every part of the rollercoaster that is horse life!

Please DM me your story!

All the love, Lauren and Newt. ❤️

Remember in a team, two of you need to improve.. we’re so quick to throw everything at our horses we forget about the other part of the puzzle… ourselves!

⭐️Am I a miracle worker?⭐️

No, unfortunately I am not! Like any horse trainer, I cannot work miracles!

When a horse/pony comes to me for backing or schooling, I work with what I have in order to make them more manageable, rideable and easier to work with.

I deal with behaviours and use methodical application to work through barriers and to help the horse overcome obstacles that may be holding them back.

⭐️Does the work stop there?⭐️

No, more times than not the main barrier with horses is the owners mental state and belief they can’t work through things. It is so important that owners realise that it is their responsibility to continue working with their horse once they are back home.

Once a horse is back at home, things may not go as smoothly as they did with me to begin with. This is because it’s a different environment, different rider and different routine.

⭐️What can you do once your horse is back home?⭐️

Let them settle back into a routine, start by doing some ground work to create a stronger bond and more respect from your horse.

It is vital to have a plan ahead of what your goals are. Break these goals into long-term and short-term to make them more manageable. Have a good understanding of how these goals can be accomplished and remember to not make them unrealistic and be prepared for setbacks and things to not go as planned some days!

I am here to support you once the horse is back and to come up with a plan that is going to work for you and your horse. It is perfectly fine to reach out for help if you hit barriers but never feel disheartened if things aren’t progressing as quickly as you wished.

I highly recommend Calm and Collected-Equine Journals and Planners to help you monitor your progress and set goals. It is an amazing tool to continue your journey after your horse has been with myself. It helps me to understand where you are at and how we can get you to where you want to be. Please take a look at calm and collected Equine journals page for more information and to get your journal ordered. If you have any questions feel free to contact Lauren Cotterill, I’m sure she would be happy to help.

It is crucial to have a good team behind you and support to gain the best partnership with your equine companion. Every journey is individual but get the best start you can 🐴🫶🏻

The perception of “laziness” can be a byproduct, a symptom of so many restrictions to and within a horses body. 💭

The other day I had a lesson, and I caught myself rushing Ivan when he started fidgeting at the mounting block… AHHH! I stopped myself and quickly said to my instructor, “Bear with me a moment, let me take a breath and chill out.”

She (being amazing) stood back, let me take a moment, and guess what? Ivan stopped fidgeting.

Even though I preach Calm and Collected, sometimes it’s about catching yourself in the moment. Like you, I’m only human, and life can get the better of my logical brain.

I wanted to share some of the micro rituals I use around horses to check in with myself, and to make the experience better for both of us in that moment.

I’d love to hear yours!

Drop a little tip in the comments to help another rider feel more calm and connected with their horse!

Remember every interaction with your horse shapes their opinion of you as a partner, so make any moment you can POSITIVE.
