Happy International Primate Day! 🐒

At Five Sisters Zoo, we’re lucky to look after sixteen amazing primate species — each with their own unique personalities and characteristics.

Worldwide, there are more than 300 primate species, but sadly, around two-thirds are now endangered because of threats like habitat loss and the illegal wildlife trade. 💔

That’s why we’re proud to work alongside two brilliant organisations — in Madagascar and in West Africa — both dedicated to protecting primates by working closely with local communities. By visiting Five Sisters Zoo, you’re helping us support vital partnerships like these. 🌍

Which of our primates is your favourite? Let us know in the comments! ⬇️

Earlier this week, we were delighted to host the Small Cat Workshop here at Five Sisters Zoo! 🐱🐾

40 delegates, including zoo keepers, educators, and conservation biologists from across the UK, came together to share knowledge and discuss all things small cats.

Workshops like this are invaluable for building connections, exchanging experiences, and ensuring the very best care for the animals we look after. Thank you to ABWAK and everyone who came along to make it such a success!

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our extraordinary ring-tailed lemur and one of Five Sisters Zoo’s most cherished residents – Stumpy.

Over the past week, Stumpy’s health began to decline, and on Sunday we made the compassionate decision to let him go peacefully.

Stumpy arrived at Five Sisters Zoo almost two decades ago in 2005, the very same month we opened our doors, earning his name for his shorter-than-usual tail. From that moment, he became more than just a resident – he became part of our identity. The ring-tailed lemur on our logo was even inspired by him, a lasting tribute to the role he played in our story.

At an incredible 39 years old – nearly twice the average lifespan for his species – Stumpy made history earlier this year when Guinness World Records officially recognised him as the oldest living lemur in captivity. This remarkable milestone was a testament to the exceptional care he received throughout his time at the zoo.

His legacy will forever be a cornerstone of Five Sisters Zoo – shaping our history, our conservation work, and the memories of his keepers, visitors, and all who knew him.

Rest peacefully, Stumpy. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. ❤️
