My apple drawing from yesterday’s workshop. Sometimes going back to basics, with just 5 or 6 pencils, is really fun. Lots of experimenting with colours and new combinations.

A bumper apple harvest from my drawing workshop this morning. We started with some pencil tips and techniques, created a line drawing and then dived into the colours. Juicy! Some fabulous work produced and a lovely relaxing vibe to start the weekend. 🍎✏️

I’m excited to announce I’ll be joining in to host some new creative workshops taking place in 2025 with Lady Bay Arts

1ST AND/OR 2ND OF AUGUST

The workshops include three artists running sessions in the Lady Bay Scout Hall.
These sessions include:

DRAWING WITH SARAH REED
Explore your inner artist with expert guidance and support to bring the world to life in coloured pencil.

CREATE SEMI-ABSTRACT DRAWINGS WITH NICHOLAS WRIGHT
Collaboratively contribute to some large drawings inspired by the Hook. This will include a nature walk to observe and sketch, and an introduction to making semi abstract work using line and watercolour.

CREATE IMAGINARY CREATURES WITH JANE BEVAN
By tying and fixing together a variety of natural materials, such as leaves, pine needles, and poppy seed heads, make imaginary creatures to take home, full of character and humour.

Earlier this year I held a pencil drawing workshop, where we had fun with colour and nature themes. It was for all ages and abilities and everyone made gorgeous work! So many people lose confidence in drawing at school, but with a few techniques and some assurance there are no right or wrong approaches, it’s amazing what you can achieve.

Signed and framed the ram drawing today. He’s now hanging in my studio looking very handsome. I love the subtle, neutral pencil tones of this one. 8” by 11” coloured pencil on hot pressed paper.

What a fab idea for a retirement gift. And such a feel-good portrait to draw too! As Chair of our local Canoe Club, Dawn spends many happy hours on the water with Bear and this is truly a fitting tribute to her long term commitment to the club. Happy retirement Dawn!
