⚠️ HOW TO SPOT THE DIFFERENCE WHEN CHOOSING A RESCUE TO SUPPORT ⚠️
Sadly, rescue scammers DO exist.
But genuine rescuers do too — and many small independent rescues across the UK are struggling more than ever.
Please don’t stop supporting rescue.
Just learn what to look for. 🐾
🚩 RED FLAGS:
• Only asks for money
• No other ways to help besides cash donations
• Only one payment method (especially personal bank transfer only)
• Constant urgent fundraising with no updates afterwards (when you know funds have been donated - sadly there’s often no update because not a single penny was actually donated 😿)
• No updates on cats/kittens or outcomes
• Donation details or phone numbers not matching where they claim to be based
• Refusing reasonable questions
• No proof of vet care
• Pages that suddenly disappear and restart
• Stories constantly changing
✅ GOOD SIGNS:
• Regular updates — including after adoption
• Familiar cats followers recognise over time
• Transparency about vet care and costs
• Multiple ways supporters can help
• Welcomes volunteers, fosterers, adopters and donations of supplies
• Happy to answer questions
• Long-term visible rescue work
• Cats shown safe and settled later on
Money donations ARE incredibly important and often the most helpful form of support because rescues can use funds where they’re most urgently needed.
But genuine rescues usually recognise that not everybody is comfortable donating money — and that support comes in many forms.
🐾 Volunteering
🐾 Fostering
🐾 Adopting
🐾 Donating supplies
🐾 Sharing posts
🐾 Fundraising
🐾 Recommending adopters
All of it matters.
Please support carefully.
Please support wisely.
But please STILL support rescue. 🖤
Because when genuine rescuers lose support…
animals pay the price.
