Cat Grooming Isn’t Expensive… It’s Danger Money 💰

“Most vets won’t even attempt to groom your cat unless it’s sedated… yet groomers are expected to do it awake for less than the price of a dog groom.”

Sedated cat grooms in Northern Ireland typically cost owners anywhere from £160–£300+ once vet fees, sedation, monitoring and grooming are included.

That’s the reality when a cat needs to be handled under medical supervision.

So when people say specialist cat grooming is “expensive”, let’s put it into perspective…

Look at it like this — a vet simply won’t groom your cat at all without sedation.
Yet I’m often expected to do it awake, handling teeth, claws, fear and stress… for the same price as dog grooming — or sometimes even cheaper, just because a cat is smaller than a dog.

When I groom an aggressive, terrified or dangerously matted cat without sedation, I am working:

• with teeth that can puncture to bone
• claws that can cause permanent nerve damage
• a stressed animal that could injure itself in seconds
• and a job where one mistake could genuinely change a life

All while keeping the cat safe, calm and alive.

This isn’t just a haircut.
It’s controlled handling, welfare knowledge, and the experience to prevent injury before it happens.
It’s managing risk, behaviour and safety every second the cat is on the table.
It’s the difference between a cat leaving stressed… or leaving safe at all.

This isn’t purely a cosmetic service.
It’s a safety-critical one.

And just to be clear — yes, this cat’s nails were trimmed, and this cat was not aggressive at all.
It was a sheer, playful accident… believe it or not.

Because when you work with cats, even the sweet ones can cause serious injury in seconds.

So when you compare the cost of a professional feline-only groom to a sedated veterinary procedure…

Specialist cat grooming isn’t expensive.
In many cases, it’s the safer — and more affordable — option.
