🦔🥰Inmate updates/New Intakes🥰🦔

Let’s start with brilliant news of the release of Monday, Dougie and Sunny. Be safe wild and free you 3⭐️

Helen-
My weekly update
Sadly little Henry didn't make it 🌈
Lucy - still nosy and appears whenever I go in the room. She's having a snack as I type this! Has ringworm so treatment started
Hamilton- great gains, he's little and chubby
Sunshine, still a model guest, up to 405g today so hopefully wild and free after another week
Chewy - now living up to his name and nibbling holes in his shoe box nest. Good weight gains.

Sean-
Winnie is now at release weight👍
Piglet is catching his sister up👍
Hedgie had munched his way through the week and had made fantastic progress.👍

Chelle-
Poppet's sore skin is improving, albeit slowly. He is otherwise ok and up at 806g.
Little Winston has been here just over a week and is doing well. Up to 186g, he is gaining weight slowly.

Two transfers in from Ann in the week. Little Gucho and Mochi. Both were hand-reared and are now almost ready for release. Both now in their own cage and behaving. Not much longer, and they can go free.⭐️ #

Brought in by Chris on Wednesday was little Bobby. Referred by my local vet, this little fella was being cared for by Chris but has now developed a bad case of ringworm and has lost most of his fur and spines. More worrying was the pacing of the cage and hyperactivity. A 💩 check has seen this little one start on meds, and he is having daily baths and treatments.

In the outside enclosure, I still have Pippin and her pip squeaks. Mummy Pippin is coming out every night to get the nourishment she needs to keep feeding her babies. A peek in the hog house during the week showed the babies are getting bigger. Keep it up, Pippin 🥰

Jo-
Sweet Trio; all are doing well and will be looking for homes this week, Fudge is a nosey greedy guts who insists on 💩 in the holding container 😂 Caramel is a 😍 very tidy.
Toffee is nosey 🤣 and watches my every move when im feeding her.

Min and Mo are both making good progress with Mo ready for supported release. 😍

Pip and Pop 😍😍 both sweethearts and making great progress.

Roxy is another who likes to leave as many bodily fluids in holding container as possible, she will be released with support feeding this week.

Spike has this morning moved from nursery cage to a big boy cage, he still drags his blanket to feed 🥣 😂

Henry has also moved to a big boy cage this week and he still loves to sleep in biscuits 😴 😜

Clover, this little madam, will not eat ground biscuits or puppy mousse but will try biscuits 🤣 no helping some 🦔. She is on meds as loosing weight and poo a slimy green .. fingers crossed for you 🍀

Debs-
Sunny wild and free🤩
Sadly we have rainbow for Harlow 🌈
Bob came in Wednesday at 427g out in the day, clear poo and is 522g this morning 👍
Thank you Sarah for getting this hedgie the help it needed.👍
Also in Wednesday we have Jay who was super skinny and not well at all. He went over the rainbow bridge Friday 🌈
We tried Kelsey and thank you for trying👍
Next in we have Sausage at 407g OITD, poo clear so a couple of days feeding up and he can be wild and free again.👍
Betty came in Thursday with nasty scapes on her back legs and fly strike. All cleaned up, snug and warm, she went over the 🌈 this morning 😢 thank you to finder Rachel for helping her👍
Horatio came in this morning from Rawmarsh at 347g. Poo to check but is now snug safe and warm for now. Thank you to finders for helping him and for you generous donation to the rescue👍

Sharon-
Tom had had a week of battling lung worm but does seem better now.👍
Sandy is doing very well and being a good inmate👍

Rachel-
Little Henry is making good steady progress 👍

Rebecca-
Mr Fatty and Mr Messy are now out in soft release getting used to outdoor temps👍
Summer started the week with amazing progress but the coccidiosis is catching up with her again so more meds and lots of 🙏
Spikey also had a promising start to the week. She needs to eat more 🤦‍♀️
A hedgie in from Donny has a wound on a back leg from a dog attack. A good thorough check at the vets, pain meds started and snug and warm with us😩
Another coming in later, a possible sibling.

Thank you to Jennifer K for you amazing wish list items🤩
Thank you so much to Louise F for the very thoughtful gifts. 🤩
You can find us on this new link for donations wish list items etc. this will hopefully help us to help our little Spikey friends👍

Debs-
Charlie came in Thursday and is only 79g.
Lots of tlc and snacks for this tiny to help him gain strength and thrive.👍
Sandy came in via Medivets wath. Sandy is from wath comp field, where he was out in the day. Sandy has already added weight and settled in.👍
Chewy loves his food and is doing well for a juvvie. 👍
Spikie is being a pain in the prickles as he’s not gaining enough weight to thrive. Extra hand feeds and coaxing with a variety of foods to entice him. 🙏🙏
Dave is now separated from his wee pal Spikie and is loving the space and food. He’s gained lots and doing fantastically.👍
Summer has had an up and down week as she battle’s coccidiosis. She is not as hyper as she first was, but it’s a lot for 1 so tiny🙏
Hedgie is now rid of over 100 ticks and settled in well👍
Sunny is a super star inmate who has made it from little juvenile to all grown up and ready to go home on Tuesday👍
Susie loves to yo yo he weight to annoy Debs 🤦‍♀️
Betty is now wild and free⭐️
Woody sadly had such a bad case of fluke that it was just too much. He slipped over the hedgie rainbow bridge yesterday🌈

🦔🥰Hedgie Updates/New Intake🥰🦔

Oakwell Updates;
🌈 Tiny Tim unfortunately passed 😢
Leon who came in from Medivets on Friday had a really upset tummy and unfortunately passed on Friday. RIP to these chaps.
Admitted this week also from vets was Clover found by Lucy out in the day. Clover is a little escape artist and is not sure on wet food but she has increased to 160g from her start weight of 150g.

Sweet Trio; Toffee, Fudge and Caramel are all increasing and weights are; 295g, 314g and 285g. Fudge is a greedy guts and Caramel loves to 💩 up the walls.

Hetty has completed her meds and a whopping 637g, she is off for release Monday.

Pop is growing into a sassy 🦔 and now weighs 339g.
Pip loves her food and has increased to 305g.
Mo getting to be a big girl weighing in at 378g.
Min loves to leave me presents in her food dishes and weighs 294g.

Roxy is greedy sassy hog and is weighing in at 409g.

Spike loves to pull his bed over to feed dishes 😂 and now weighs 207g.

Henry is a scruffy hog who also pulls bed to feed dishes and 💩 anywhere, weighing in at 187g.
🦔🥰🦔

Today's update from Chelle
Mummy Pippin and her 3 little pip squeaks seem to be doing well. Pippin has been seen every night on camera pottering around, eating and drinking, before heading back into the hog house to feed babies. A quick peak in the hog house on Thursday showed them all looking a bit bigger than a week ago, so hopefully, they will all be fine.

Poppet, the lad who came in almost 2 weeks ago, is still being treated for very sore skin. A change of treatment plan is needed as there has not been much improvement. He is otherwise OK and gaining plenty of weight.

Finally, last night, we had a new little boy brought in. He is 130g and seems ok. Hopefully, all he needs is plenty of rest and good food, and we can get him up to a weight suitable for release.
🦔🥰🦔

Margaret sent in -
Mick 435 grams; + 5 grams. He’s eating & pooing well.
🦔🥰🦔

Sharon sent in her reports-
Roly has done so well she is ready to go once all the rain stops
Jeff newby came in from Hoyland yesterday, is a good sized female with clear poo sample so she is going home to be wild and free.
Honor is a tiny newby and only weighs 90g. She needs lots of 🙏 that she is strong enough to keep thriving
Tom is eat sleep poo repeat, a much better week.
Dougie has nearly finished his meds so hopefully will be ready to go soon.
🦔🥰🦔

Anne -
Mochi is not so tiny as she climbs the weight charts.
Groucho has been a good hedgie and added weight, making good progress.

Helen-
Lucy - cheeky hedgie who comes out for a nosey when you go in the room. Likes to reorganise her cage by pushing things around with her nose. 188g to 253g over the week.
Henry - quiet, not eating much, just a nibble on crushed biscuits. More downs than ups with weight. 198g to 199g in a week. Trying meds to encourage appetite.
Hamilton - up and down weights but 131g to 152g in a week, slow but doing
Sunshine - she's the perfect guest, neat and tidy, toilet in one corner, eats only dry food. 198g to 289g in a week, all gains.
Chewy, new in on 17th, making good gains, 171g to 205g. Keep it up little fella.
🦔🥰🦔

Cheryl-
Monday has left me astonished at her amazing weight gains and progress, says Cheryl, what a little star.
🦔🥰🦔

Happy Friday hedgie fans.
Don’t forget, despite recent rain, water is still hard for wildlife to find, so don’t forget to leave some out.

🦔🥰Mid week Report🥰🦔
We have to report a few loses as some of our inmates have gone over the hedgie rainbow bridge.
Firstly one that broke our hearts this morning is our dear little Tiny Tim. He was found this morning peaceful and forever sleeping. There was some growth and size issues with Tim so this could be why.
Absolutely gutted as we thought we had got him to a good place 🌈
The tiny baby who came into Rachel at the weekend was past our help and had been without the goodness of mums milk for too long. RIP little girly 🌈
Another shock 🌈 is Oliver, no reasons can be found as to why and it leaves us heartbroken that he didn’t survive when he was doing so well. Oliver you are the furriest little one we’ve had and super cute, rest now 🌈
Poppy/Pop was found as if she was asleep with her tiny little nose poking out of her bed. Another juvvie who we just couldn’t save and will never know why 🌈
Shadow came in Sunday found by Kayleigh.
He had to go to the vets this morning to be helped over the hedgie rainbow bridge.
He has a scrape on his nose which was superficial and what looked like a fairly superficial scrap/wound down one side. Nice and clean no sign of fly strike or fleas, he was found to have maggots forcing their way out of his wounds this morning. Not knowing the full extend of the internal damage and necrotic tissue he will no longer be in pain from those nasty 🤢 creatures. 🌈
America came in from America lane wath, he had fly strike and maggots and had lost an eye and had a necrotic maggoty wound underneath. Too much damage done so 🌈

Hamilton and Henry who came in at the weekend, are both doing ok so far. We never know if they will be ok as some go even after being with us for a week or more.
Poo is clear so it must be something internal or a birth defect that only allows so much growth and development 👍
Hedgie came in yesterday 147g and brought a couple of ticks with him. Thank you Paula for helping this little juvvie get the help it needed. he is already up to 182g so everything crossed he can thrive and make it 🦔🙏🦔

Photos
Both these hedgehogs have fly strike, that is layer upon layer thousands of flyers that will hatch into maggots. (If they haven’t already underneath nearer to the skin.)
yes they eat the hedgehog alive.
If you see a hedgehog like this, please get it a vet asap so it can be cleaned up properly and checked for maggot infestation, necrotic tissue or wounds.
A rescue would only do the same. As it looks like both have very severe wounds underneath all that fly strike.
If you see a hedgie out in the day get advise from a rescue. If you have seen a smaller hedgehog out in the day, contain and get it help asap. We are getting a lot of calls about juvvies being out for 2/3 days and it’s a sign they are struggling and need help.

🦔🥰Inmate Updates/New intakes🥰🦔

Part 2
Rachel reports that little George is eating well and making good progress 👍
Also a newby juvvie on its way, so de flea no doubt and a nice warm bed with room service👍 thank you to Sally in south Athersley for helping this little one.🤩

Updates from me.

On Monday, I collected an injured hog from Beech House Vets, taken in by Carole. This hog has a nasty wound above the right eye. He is receiving regular wound care and antibiotics.

Also, on Monday, finder Shelley from Thorpe Hesley brought in a little one. Severely dehydrated and with signs it had been attacked by birds, this little one sadly didn't make it. 🌈

On Thursday, Rebecca rescued a mum and her 3 babies when the nest was disturbed. They are all currently residing in a hog house in the enclosure in my garden. Mum was seen on the camera last night getting vital food and water to keep her strength up so she can feed these babies.

Sharon says Tom is a naughty hedgie losing weight. This could be a complication from swimming in a pond 🤦‍♀️
Dougie is being a good inmate and fighting lung worm but eating. Keep going little 1🙏
Roly has had a bit so good week with extra checks and medication. Hopefully he’s on the mend 🙏

Debs-
Susie and Betty are a right pair, both losing weight and not getting on with the program. Come on you 2, you could be wild and free now if you’d been good inmates🤦‍♀️
Dave (70g) and Spikey (67g)are the best of friends and both have actually made a tiny bit of progress this week. 👍
Lucy came in at 144g and is a good little inmate. She is now in a big girls cage and weighs 188g. A touch of green poo started so checks and meds will be given to combat this.
Sunny has clear poo but likes to drop a couple of grams after storming up the weight charts. Tut, don’t start little Mr, be a good hedgie and eat sleep 💩 repeat🤦‍♀️
New inmates-
Summer came in at 80g and has added over 10gs, she was hungry bless her.
Poppy 108g after her first night of a snug warm bed and room service. 👍
Sunshine came in with over 100 ticks on him/her. He has managed to eat and settle in and probably feels loads better with the nasty blood suckers gone. 👍
Also in this week we had 2 hoglets both out in the day. Sadly both of them have a neurological disorder or metabolic bone disease. They can’t walk or support their body weight. They “swim” on their bodies and it is heartbreaking to have to deal with.
there is only 1 kind option, 🌈. Both passed over the hedgie 🌈 within 48hours of coming in, as they were so weak.
Thank you to everyone that came to support us at our stall at the manvers fete last weekend. 🤩
Thank you to all our finders for helping hedgehogs get the rescue care or vet treatments they need to survive.🤩
Thank you to everyone that supports wildlife.🤩
Thank you to everyone that donates to the rescue.🤩
Dont forget the o leave out water 💦
Peak a boo/ we see you 💕
Mum and babies rescued this week. 💕

🦔🥰Inmate updates/New Intakes🥰🦔

Part 1

Another super busy week for us all in hedgie rescue which has meant that most rescues are full to bursting with hoglets and juveniles.
We do get a lot of calls about “small hedgehogs” (not hoglets but not adult sized)
If they are out at night only, then we would leave them be and observe. They have to find they way as mum abandons them around 12 weeks old, to fend for themselves. As much as we would like to take them all in, we must save our places for those that are struggling and coming out in the day. These are in much more need of our help.

Inmate reports in from carers

Sean- Winnie and Tigger are gaining little but piglet is up and down with weight only adding a gram or 2 then drops a little , this heat is taking it out of them. 👍
Come on wee piglet you can do it 🙏

Lesley- daisy ate all her food last night and is 858g this morning. Up from 798g yesterday. A big jump considering the heat bless her and she is ready to go home so get ready finders 🤩

Margaret- Mick 343 grams; fantastic progress, well done all😊

Rebecca- Mr Messy and Rhubarb have both gained had a good week.
Sadly we lost Gunner. It’s just so hard when they rainbow so young and innocent 😭🌈

Cheryl - Little Monday 204 gms already.
She has Doubled her weight in 11 days, start oft he week to Monday🦔🤩🦔

Oakwell Updates; from Jo
First the 🌈 this week unfortunately Milo passed he looked like he was having seizures.
Henrietta fought hard but what looked like pneumonia was too much for her in the end.

Admittances;
Sarah brought in fluffy Spike weighing 90g on Wednesday he has gotten on the programme of eat, sleep and 💩 and is a gorgeous 🦔
In from Kendray on Friday was Henry, found out in the day alone and weighs 107g upon admittance but did well last night increasing to 113g.

Hetty had a blip but is medicated and making good progress and fingers crossed this will continue, now weighing 505g.
The sweet hoglets were split this week as there was green 💩 which is not a good sign, the culprit was Toffee who has had his meds and is responding, so fingers crossed.
Caramel is a sweetie and is making steady progress now weighing 212g. Final sweet hoglet is Fudge who loves to make a mess and weighs in at 233g.
The hoglets from Lyn in Wombwell are all girls!!! Min and Mo were separated as Mo was hogging the food (no pun intended) and are both doing well. Pip and Pop are progressing in weight both keeping within 3g of each other.
Oliver, another green 💩 victim this morning, straight on meds and close monitoring for him.
Roxy, 😍 this lady has sass and loves her food, weight up to 290g.
Tiny Tim (not so tiny anymore) this chap has had his diet changed as he has a pot belly, only big boy food and he is letting me know he is not happy.

Loads of splotting and using water dishes as paddling pools this week.

Anne has Goucho and Mochi who are both lapping for themselves and tucking into their puppy mousse. These 2 tiny ones have come a long way, keep it up you 2💕

Don’t forget to leave out water for the wildlife.
