Bonfire Night Reminder πŸ”₯ πŸŽ†

Fireworks are a much-loved part of Bonfire Night, often taking place throughout early November. While many children and adults enjoy the celebrations, please remember to be considerate of nearby farms, stables, wildlife areas, and animal sanctuaries.

Loud bangs and bright flashes can be distressing to animals. Giving advance notice of planned firework displays allows owners to prepare and put safety measures in place.

A little warning goes a long way in helping to keep animals calm and safe.
Thank you for being thoughtful this Bonfire Night. πŸŽ‡ 🐎 🐴

A huge well done to all of the SEN and SEND children from WAVES and The Sensory Place OPEN PAGE who came for some riding sessions this week.

Horse riding is a hugely beneficial activity for SEN / SEND children who might find traditional sports tricky. It’s calming, exciting, and full of possibilities !

Sitting on a horse helps build balance and strength. Being around horses can boost confidence and independence , giving the children a sense of freedom whilst developing a variety of skill sets , both physically and emotionally.

It’s not just a sport… it’s a friendship on four legs. πŸ’š

πŸŒ™ Clocks Have Changed! πŸ•’

As the clocks go back and the days get shorter, darker , with less sunight and limited grass growth. Changes to the horse's routine is in place.

🐴 From this week, most of the horses will be stabled overnight and turned out during the day.

🐴 With colder nights and unpredictable weather, this routine helps keep the horses warm, comfortable, and safe. During the day, the horses will still enjoy turnout time to stretch, graze, and relax between lessons.

⚠️ Ulcers

limited grass growth in autumn and winter can contribute to an increased risk of ulcers in horses, and here’s why:

🐴 Reduced forage availability:
When grass growth slows or stops, horses have less to graze on. Horses are designed to eat almost constantly (16–18 hours per day), so if their forage intake drops, their stomachs go for longer periods without food.

🐴 Continuous acid production:
The equine stomach secretes acid all the time, even when it’s empty. Normally, chewing forage produces saliva that helps buffer this acid. Without constant grazing, acid builds up and can damage the stomach lining.

πŸ’‘ Prevention Tips...

🐴 Provide ad-lib hay or haylage: Aim to never let the horse go more than 3–4 hours without forage.

🐴 Minimize stress β€” consistent routine is key !

On another note Betsy will be enjoying a well deserved week off , but Penny will be stepping in her hooves for lead rein sessions. ❀️

🌟 Horse of the Month – Romany! πŸ΄πŸ’–

Romany came to the centre as a young, green pony over 10 years ago. It took her a few years to find her feet (or hooves! ), but with patience, love, and experience, she’s blossomed into the amazing pony we all know and adore today.

She’s proof that time, trust, and care can truly bring out the best in every horse. πŸ’•

Well done, Romany β€” you’ve earned your moment in the spotlight! ✨

We would love to hear of your riding experience with Romany at the centre.....
