Heartbreaking News 💔

One of the most heartbreaking parts of having horses in dressage, and in any equine sport, is the risk of injury to your horse. They’re athletes and we ask them to work in ways which inevitably takes a toll on their bodies.

Unfortunately on Saturday at Wellington CDI Kracka succumbed to this sad realisation. After an amazing warm up, Kracka and Ruby went into their test with great excitement as this competition was the final selection trial for the Junior Europeans 🇬🇧 They went up the centreline, turned the corner, only to find Kracka was unlevel. The judges rang the bell and we were all left in disbelief after such brilliant work in the warm up as to what had happened.

We left Wellington hoping and praying it was just something that could be rectified quickly and easily, but unfortunately an appointment with the vet on Monday afternoon found Kracka has very sadly sustained a high front suspensory injury.

This obviously takes him and Ruby out of contention for a spot on the Junior European Team, and any work or competitions for the rest of the year.

We will do everything in our power to give Kracka every chance to return back to the competition arena better than ever but it will be a long road ahead.

This is the sad reality every owner and rider has to face with their horses everyday, and it unfortunately is not spoken about enough. We do everything to help to keep him sound, happy and healthy, but luck wasn’t on our side. The timing of Kracka’s injury makes it even harder to digest, but it is what it is. Horses get injured, and you have to take everyday as it comes.

Kracka is a superstar who has already achieved so much and will be loved and adored whatever happens 🫶🏻

Massive thank you to all of Team Hughes, Aron and Nikita, and everyone else who has been so incredibly supportive through this really difficult time for Kracka, our Lion 🦁, and Ruby ❤️

Kracka and Ruby’s First International WIN 🥇🇬🇧❤️

What an unbelievable morning at Addington International where Kracka and Ruby scored an amazing 70.9% in the International Junior Team Test to take the Win 🙌🏻 It was truly an incredible test and a testament to Ruby’s hard work.

As an owner it has been an absolute privilege to watch these two grow as a partnership, learning together and blossoming along the way. I know I’ve said it many times before, but I can’t wait to see what the future holds 🥰

Kracka is truly special and is laser focused on Ruby in the warm up and test, however he does not like waiting and standing around, and because the National Anthem was delayed being played in the prizegiving due to a technical issue he decided to give everyone a live demo of his “other job” 🙈😂 He says he misses Helen (and Delilah) at VT Vets 😉 But he then redeemed himself by doing a lovely lap of honour ❤️ Thank you Tom for your help!!

A huge thank you to Carl for the training and for warming them up today, we really do appreciate it a great deal. Thank you also to Ruby, Rebecca, Gareth, Aron, Nikita, Steph, Rachelle and mum (aka. The Whip Holder) as without you all this wouldn’t be possible 🫶🏻

🔥 FIRST EVER PSG 🔥

A massive milestone was achieved today. We decided to go and have some fun inbetween the serious shows. So Kracka did his first ever PSG at Solihull today and scored a very respectable 67.8% 🥹

Ruby did an incredible job, at only 17 years old training her first ever horse to this level!! They’ve actually barely touched on the PSG work for quite a while with having Regionals, Myserscough Premier League, Aachen and then the Winter Championships all at Advanced Medium level. There were some very green moments, but the potential is most definitely there and I can’t wait for their next go ☺️

🥉 WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025🥉

Wow, what a day yesterday was! From start to finish Kracka was an absolute superstar ⭐ We did the usual Kracka Special of rocking up to Addington an hour before his test time, no arena walk, and of course it didn’t phase him in the slightest. He did a beautiful relaxed warm up, followed by the most confident test in a very spooky main arena.

Ruby rode an absolutely stonking test in the extremely hot Advanced Medium Gold to score over 72% 🙌🏻 They held the lead for quite a while and were only pipped by half a percent by the winner. To be so close to taking the title was unbelievable!!

This stallion really is a dream come true and I couldn’t be more grateful to him, or the amazing team and support we have 🥰

Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported Kracka and Ruby, as well as all of the lovely messages of congratulations. It really means a lot to us all ❤️

📣 STUD SEASON 2025 ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

With Kracka’s training and competition schedule looking incredibly busy for 2025, we have made the decision to only offer Frozen Semen from him for this breeding season.

His welfare and wellbeing are of the utmost importance and trying to combine breeding with his current schedule would be too much to take on this year.

However, I will be offering an Early Bird Discount of £100 off per dose if ordered before 1st May, as well as a £100 discount per dose for returning Fire Kracka mare owners.

One dose (6 straws) is £600, (£500 if ordered before 1st May), no terms, but if another dose is needed for the same mare the price drops to £300. Stored at Stallion AI, and transport is to be arranged with them.

🇬🇧 Kracka’s First Ever International 🇬🇧

And we decided to go to Aachen, Germany 🇩🇪 but wow was it worth it. We had the perfect week. Stunning venue, beautiful weather, fabulous company and amazing results 🏅🥉🥉

Ruby and Kracka did a brilliant first test in the Team test and were soooo close to taking the top spot, with only half a percent between the top 4!! A few green blips resulted in a 4th place out of 23 starters, but what an incredible start.

They went one better in the Individual and took a podium spot with 🥉 place. Then the finale was Kracka’s first ever Freestyle 🎵 and what a Freestyle to begin with. The floor plan was designed by Marsha Webb with input from Rebecca and the music was composed by none other than, Tom Hunt!! We all absolutely adore the music and it suits Kracka perfectly.

They smashed it with 74.5% for another podium place 🥉, and not far behind the winners 😁

Kracka was super star ⭐ throughout the whole week, from travelling all that way to being stabled and settling very quickly into a very busy atmosphere. He did get VERY excited in the prizegivings with a few added moves 😆 but it was so lovely to see him actually gain more energy as the week went on.

It was a mammoth team effort to get there, as we had to get our lorries and ourselves certified to actually go, taking a lot of time, effort and expense. I definitely would have been lost without Steph’s help with this, as if you have never done it, you will not realise how complicated it all is. It was also interesting driving abroad (on the wrong/right side of the road 😅) for the very first time in the horsebox. Thank goodness it’s only a 3.5T 😂

Massive thanks and congratulations to Ruby, she did an outstanding job with Kracka, and I literally cannot wait to see how this year unfolds for this partnership 🫶🏻

🥉 in the Junior Individual test with 3 mistakes, and an amazing 🥈 in the Junior Team test with 1 mistake in massive classes.

Absolutely loving the journey Kracka and Ruby are on, both learning and growing together. Junior level is just a stepping stone in the journey ahead 🫶🏻

Wow, what a week!

On Saturday and Sunday Kracka and Ruby competed at Vale View High Profile Show. They achieved 🥈 in the Team Test, and 🥇 in the Individual Test with a fab 70%+ score 🙌🏻 Still lots to improve to get those scores higher, which is a lovely position to be in. They’re no where near their limit yet!

Then yesterday they competed at Arena UK Regional Championships in the Advanced Medium Gold class where they became Reserve Regional Champions 🥈 They were placed first with one judge, and even awarded a 9 🥳 Therefore, they have directly qualified for the Winter Championships at Addington in April!!!!

Extremely chuffed with Kracka and Ruby’s recent achievements and genuinely cannot wait to see how this year unfolds for them. I don’t think this duo get enough credit with Kracka being an active breeding stallion, and Ruby having only just turning 17 and this being the first time she is producing a horse up the levels. Ruby is so focussed, hard working and determined, and I’m always so grateful to have her as Kracka’s rider.
