I’m sometimes asked for advice on dogs’ behaviour, but as a walker I’m not the best qualified to deal with more complex behavioural issues. What I can do is spot when something might need a bit of extra support and point you in the right direction.
A dog trainer is ideal for teaching practical skills like loose-lead walking, recall, and basic commands, things that help make day-to-day walks run smoothly.
A behaviourist, however, specialises in understanding the reasons behind a dog’s behaviour, especially when it comes to anxiety, fear, or reactivity, and can create a tailored plan to address it.
So while I’m always happy to share what I notice on walks, for specific training or behavioural concerns it’s best to work with the right professional.
