🔴 Parvo 🔴
Recently and locally, Parvo is raising its ugly head.
Parvo is highly contagious and potentially life threatening - even if your dog is vaccinated against Parvo, they can still contract it - the idea behind the vaccine is that a live, small dose of Parvo will help the body to have the right equipment to fight off the virus - unfortunately, I'm yet to see a case of Parvo that doesn't require veterinary treatment and having multiple vaccinations doesn't lessen the likelihood of illness.
Parvo isn't just transmitted through p**p, but sick and Saliva too. Any animal to animal contact, even through human contact that have been in contact with Parvo or on bedding, clothes etc. It's really important if your dog has Parvo to NOT come into contact with ANY other dogs!
Symptoms of Parvo ....
🦠 Profuse, Smelly Diarrhoea, that may be bloody.
🦠 Sickness
🦠 Loss of Appetite
🦠 Very High, or Very low Temperature
🦠 Pale Gums
🦠 Signs of abdominal pain (bow stretches)
If your dog has these symptoms get them to a vet Straight away! Now, there are lots of other illnesses that carry similar symptoms but vets can do a quick faecal test to confirm Parvovirus and treatment must be imminent to survive the virus.
Currently, there is no known cure for Parvo, but fast acting vet treatment can pull them out the other side of this illness. Parvo attacks bone marrow thus compromising the dogs immune system, and they become dehydrated Fast, it damages the intestinal lining, resulting in a loss of Appetite, or, if they do it, it's usually brought straight back up.
Dogs most at risk of becoming seriously ill with Parvo are those under 6 months of age, senior dogs and dogs who are immunocompromised.
