Severn Trent Green Energy’s plan to construct a large industrial gas manufacturing plant (Anaerobic Digester) on prime agricultural farmland in the rural village of Winwick is devastating not only to our community but to the entire UK's environment.
The proposed AD plant will process up to 75,000 tonnes of food waste transported from across the North West and none from residential homes in Warrington
Its environmental impact will be felt far beyond Winwick, affecting us all.
Alarmingly, the proposed site is located in THE GREEN BELT an area that is prone to flooding posing significant environmental and logistical risks that could worsen as the plant is developed.
This site’s vulnerability to flooding, and its proximity to a water source for over 20,000 people, only adds to the grave concerns surrounding its long-term environmental viability.
If this plant goes ahead, it sets a dangerous precedent for how we treat our land, our waterways, and our air, leaving a legacy of pollution and destruction in its wake.
As residents of Winwick and Hermitage Green and across Warrington, we oppose this project not as outsiders, but as members of a community with deep ties to this land.
The proposal ignores critical concerns about the well-being of Winwick residents and the broader region, including neighboring villages that will endure increased traffic congestion, odour, and disruption from both construction and the ongoing transportation of waste if the plant is approved.
Biogas plants, like the one proposed, carry considerable biohazard risks
