🌟Members of the Week! 🌟

This week we would like to shine a spotlight on Pam & Prince as "Partnership of the Week". Pam has been training with us for just over a year now since she got Prince as a puppy. You might look a Prince and think he's going to be a placid, calm little dog but in actual fact sometimes we think he might be part squirrel he's so busy and excitable. It's been a challenge to get his mind on the task in hand and working with Pam as a team, but Pam has trusted the process, been consistent and dedicated and they now make the most wonderful partnership. The last few weeks he has been foot perfect in training, showing time & patience pay off!

"Most Improved Partnership" goes to Sue & Barney. A few weeks ago puppy Barney was a man on his own mission. He was more interested in towing Sue around to get to where he wanted to go than enjoying their walks together. This week he was so much more engaged with Sue and they were starting to show some really fantastic loose lead walking. Getting things right at this age makes life so much easier for you and your dog long term, we love seeing how committed our clients are to training important life skills to help their pups navigate the world around them in a way that is pleasurable for all involved.

Keep up the top work ladies!

Takes more than storm Amy to dampen our enthusiasm! It might have blown away our tolerance for mediocracy (did we ever really have any though?!) if you ask some of our members today who have been drilled on the importance of their basics again. Practice makes perfection!!

Picture may or may not be an accurate representation of facial expressions you can expect to see from us in a day of training….

Coming soon to an agility show near you…. Congratulations to our trainer Abi for passing her Kennel Club Agility Judges examination!
She will now be officially judging, but she’s been judging everyone for years anyway if we’re being honest 😂

Breed spotlight- it would be remiss of us not to mention this next breed seeing as they are the reason for so many “new” breeds you see now, it’s the Poodles: The Stylish All-Rounder with Brains to Match! 🐩

France’s national dog (though originally bred in Germany), Poodles were developed as water retrievers, with their iconic coat trims designed for swimming efficiency. Today, they’re known as one of the most intelligent and versatile breeds, excelling in work, sport, and companionship. Available in three sizes- Standard, Miniature, and Toy, there’s a Poodle for nearly every kind of home.

✨ Pros of the breed:
✔️ Exceptionally intelligent they are ranked among the easiest breeds to train.
✔️ Coat that sheds very little (great for allergy-sensitive homes).
✔️ Athletic and agile they excel in obedience, agility, and even gundog work.
✔️ Loyal, people-focused, and often with a playful, clownish streak.

⚠️ Things to keep in mind:
❌ High mental stimulation needs- can get bored (and mischievous!) without challenges.
❌ Regular grooming required to keep their curly coats healthy and tangle-free.
❌ Sensitive souls—can be prone to anxiety if left alone too much.
❌ High energy, especially Standards, need daily exercise and enrichment.

🎨 Coat Colours: Poodles come in a wide range- black, white, apricot, silver, blue, brown, cream, red, and more. Their curly, dense coats make them stand out and allow for iconic trims.

Whether dazzling in the show ring, retrieving in the field, or making you laugh at home, Poodles are brilliant, adaptable companions. With their brains, beauty, and bounce, it’s no wonder they’re one of the world’s most loved breeds.

What’s interesting about Poodles is we see a lot of their cross breed offspring come through our classes but rarely see them in their original form…

Did you know a poodles unique haircut comes from their days as water retrievers? The hair was cut back to reduce weight and water drag, but kept on the vital organs and joints for warmth and protection! 💇🏼‍♂️

Breed spotlight- Schnoodles: The Spirited Schnauzer–Poodle Mix! 🖤

A cross between the Schnauzer and the Poodle, the Schnoodle is a clever, lively, and affectionate companion. First appearing in the 1980s, they were bred to combine the Schnauzer’s bold, loyal nature with the Poodle’s intelligence and low-shedding coat. With their scruffy teddy-bear looks and cheerful personalities, Schnoodles have quickly become a favourite among doodle lovers.

✨ Pros of the breed:
✔️ Intelligent, quick to learn, and eager to please.
✔️ Playful, affectionate, and great with families.
✔️ Often low-shedding, they can be more allergy-friendly than some breeds.
✔️ Adaptable they are comfortable in both apartments and larger homes.

⚠️ Things to keep in mind:
❌ Energy levels vary (especially depending on whether they’re from Miniature, Standard, or Giant Schnauzer lines).
❌ Can be vocal- may inherit the Schnauzer’s watchdog bark.
❌ Coat requires regular grooming to avoid matting.
❌ Intelligent minds need stimulation, boredom can lead to mischief.

🎨 Coat Types & Colours:
Schnoodles can inherit a range of coat types, from soft waves to tight curls, often somewhere in between. Colours include black, white, grey, apricot, silver, cream, parti-colour, and more. Each Schnoodle is a one-of-a-kind mix!

🔎 Heritage & Purpose:
• Bred to combine the loyal, protective qualities of the Schnauzer with the clever, low-shedding coat of the Poodle.
• Their versatility makes them great companions, therapy dogs, and participants in agility and obedience.
• Sizes vary widely- from small lap dogs to larger, athletic companions, depending on the size of the Schnauzer parent.

Whether bouncing with joy, shadowing their humans like loyal sidekicks, or showing off their smarts in training, Schnoodles bring energy, charm, and devotion to every home.

These dogs are one of the less common poodle crosses behind the labradoodles and cockapoos.

Have you come across one of these spirited scruffballs?

Well what a day we had for our first in-house Working Gundog Test! ☀️ it cost us a fortune to get the sun to come out but it was well worth it!

We wanted to give our members the experience of a working gundog test and put their skills to the test. We couldn’t be more proud of all the dogs and handlers across the levels. They all got some pearls of wisdom from our judges to take away with them and they learned lots from the day.

We hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as we did and took the positives away from each exercises as well any homework that needs doing.

A HUGE HUGE thank you to our amazing judges Gary Collier, Amy Collier & Scott Redfern for giving up their afternoon for us. They were so encouraging with all the members and made sure their first experience of a gundog completion was a positive one 🤩
Gary is Kennel Club Field Trial Judge with a number of years experience judging and competing in gundog tests and trials, he had plently of positive feedback for our members which was lovely to hear.

Breed spotlight- Labradoodles: The Lovable, Low-Shedding Companions! ✨

First bred in Australia in the late 20th century, the Labradoodle was created by crossing the Labrador Retriever with the Poodle, combining the Labrador’s friendly, trainable nature with the Poodle’s low-shedding coat. The result? A bright, affectionate, and versatile companion who’s become one of the most popular “designer dogs” worldwide.

✨ Pros of the breed:
✔️ Friendly, affectionate, and people-oriented wonderful family dogs.
✔️ Intelligent and eager to please, making them highly trainable.
✔️ Often low-shedding, a good choice for allergy-sensitive households (though not guaranteed!).
✔️ Energetic and playful they make great partners for active families.

⚠️ Things to keep in mind:
❌ Coat type can vary, some shed more than expected.
❌ High energy levels mean they need daily exercise and stimulation.
❌ Without proper training, their enthusiasm can turn into boisterous behaviour.
❌ Require regular grooming to prevent tangles and mats.

🎨 Coat Types & Colours:
Labradoodles can inherit traits from either parent, so their coats vary:
• Fleece – soft and wavy, often low-shedding.
• Wool – tighter curls, resembling the Poodle coat.
• Hair – straighter and may shed more.
They come in a rainbow of colours, including cream, apricot, chocolate, black, red, silver, and parti-colour patterns.

🔎 Heritage & Purpose:
• Originally bred as “hypoallergenic” service dogs in Australia.
• Their intelligence and temperament make them successful therapy, guide, and assistance dogs.
• Equally cherished as affectionate, fun-loving family companions.

Whether bounding joyfully on a walk, showing off their smarts in training, or curling up for cuddles, Labradoodles bring warmth, humour, and devotion into any home.

Do you have a labradoodle in the family? Are they curly coated or sleek and smooth?
