๐พโจ Patient Spotlight! Meet Olive๐ซ ๐๐พ
Olive came into us as her pawrents were concerned that she had a swelling on face ๐ข. Her owners had noticed no trauma that couldโve caused the swelling but Olive does enjoy a stick or two ๐ค ๐ถ.
After further assessment and some sampling Olive was diagnosed with a sialocele ๐ค ๐ฆ.
๐ A sialocele (also called a salivary mucocele) happens when saliva leaks from a damaged salivary gland or duct and collects under the skin ๐ฆ. This usually shows up as a soft, painless swelling, often under the jaw, on the neck, or sometimes under the tongue (known as a ranula).
While it isnโt usually painful at first, a sialocele can cause discomfort, difficulty eating, or even breathing issues if it grows too large ๐. Diagnosis is made by examining the fluid, and treatment often involves surgical removal of the affected salivary gland. ๐
Olive had surgery to remove the salivary gland โ๏ธ and here you can see her gorgeous before and after pics ! ๐ธ ๐ฅฐ.
If you notice a sudden swelling anywhere on your pet, itโs important to have it checked by your vet ๐จโโ๏ธ ๐ฉบ. Early treatment leads to the best outcome ๐ ๐ถ ๐ฑ ๐พ ๐ซถ.
