Warning!! ‼️

Too adorable?
Concentration dropped?
Crying for no reason?

Of course.. it’s an Italian greyhound ! Now it makes sense why we were feeling this way about Willow!

Willow is just over a year old and is in good health overall, but after running about she sustained an injury to her right fore and fractured her radius and ulna bones (bones of the forearm).

Dr. Miranda and the team stabilised the fracture using a 9 hole locking compression plate. Some bone morphogenic protein was also applied to encourage bone healing.

Willow recovered very well from her anaesthetic and surgery and was able to go home the following day. She is now following a recovery plan until we see her back for a check up in six weeks time.

Beautiful Beatrice 😍

Poor Beatrice was referred to us at Anderson Abercromby after being injured in a road traffic accident. She sustained a fracture to her left tibia and fibula (shin bones).

Dr. Federico and the team performed in house radiography to assess the fracture and allow surgical planning. The fracture was then surgically stabilised using 2 x 3.5 broad synthes locking compression plates.

Beatrice sported a bandage for a couple of days post surgery to help with any swelling before she was able to go home to follow a plan of rest and recuperation.

Pictured is Beatrice outside looking b-e-a-utiful in the sunshine! ☀️☀️

This friendly fellow is Arlo 🥰

Arlo is a 5 year old Labrador who underwent a CT scan and elbow arthroscopy with Mike at Anderson Abercromby.

Arlo’s CT scan revealed a fissuring of his right medial coronoid process. The coronoid process refers to a bony prominence at the front of the ulna, which articulates with the humerus and radius. The medial part of the coronoid process is positioned on the inside.

The scan showed the medial coronoid had cracked (fissured). Arthroscopy - otherwise known as key hole was performed the same day to remove the loose fractured pieces of bone. The aims of this procedure are to alleviate discomfort and improve fitness ☺️

The photos show the arthroscopy and CT images and the bone fragments that were removed.

Arlo can also be seen here giving a paw after his procedure ☺️

C T S C A N N I N G

Computed tomography (CT) is a rotating x-ray machine and computer system that creates cross-sectional 3D images.

Typically CT scanning is a very quick, non-invasive procedure and patients often only need to undergo a short sedation.

Pictured here is the lovely boy Rodney, he visited us at Anderson Abercromby for a CT scan of his elbows and carpi (wrists).

The CT imaging revealed fragmentation of one of the sesamoid digits - this is the breaking of small bones within the foot (paw). This was evident on digit V on both his forelimbs. There was also fissuring of the medial coronoid process of the right elbow.

Rodney recovered well from his sedation and enjoyed being hand fed some chicken - a treat for being such a lovely, handsome boy 🥰

Introducing Bailey, this adorable little chap was referred to Joni Viitanen for an angular limb deformity affecting both his forelimbs.

The deformities (which affects the right side more than the left) consisted of a varus (inward) angulation of the elbow and valgus (outward) angulation of the wrist, which has led to a degree of osteoarthritis and pain. A corrective osteotomy procedure was chosen as treatment.

In house CT scanning was performed to allow surgical planning. From these images, 3D surgical guides were printed. The 3D printed guides facilitate accurate osteotomies, guide screw placement, and maintain bone reduction, leading to better alignment and functional recovery while potentially reducing surgical time and complications.

The surgical correction was successful and Bailey recovered well from his anaesthesia.
He followed a restricted exercise regime at home whilst the bone was allowed to heal.

We are glad to report at Baileys re-examination he is getting on really well! His radiographs showed progression consistent with expected healing.

Well done to Bailey 😊

Meet Colin 🐶🩵

Colin is a 2year old Labrador who was referred to AAVR and underwent a bilateral total hip replacement!

Colin is happiest when he has a cuddly toy (or one of the nurse’s shoes) to show proudly to everyone. He was a very happy and lovely boy to take care of whilst he stayed at the practice 🥰

Total hip replacement replaces the diseased or damaged parts of the hip joint and replaces them with prosthetic implants.

Conditions that may require a total hip replacement include:
✅ Hip luxations
✅ Hip dysplasia
✅ Hip osteoarthritis
✅ Hip fractures
✅ Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease

Did you know 🫵
We offer total hip replacements at a fixed price - meaning we can deliver consistent, high-quality care at excellent value with no hidden fees!
