💚🐍 Adder Awareness 🐍💚
🌿Adders are most often found in heathland, long grass, woodland edges and coastal paths but with the current warm weather, they are becoming even more active, and many seem to be seeking out riverbanks and water sources due to the extreme heat. This is unusual for them, as they typically prefer dry, open spaces, so please be extra mindful around waterways too.
💚 Please take extra care:
✔️ Keep dogs on leads in higher‑risk areas
✔️ Avoid long grass and dense vegetation
✔️ Stick to clear paths where possible
✔️ Be cautious near riverbanks and streams during hot spells
⚠️ Signs of an adder bite can include: swelling (often face or legs), pain, limping, lethargy, drooling or vomiting.
🚨 Adder bites are always an emergency.

🐍 Immediate First Aid for an Adder Bite (Before You Reach the Vet)
1. Keep your dog as still and calm as possible
Movement spreads venom faster through the bloodstream.
Carry your dog if you can, or walk them very slowly.
2. Keep the bitten area low
3. Prevent licking or chewing
4. Do NOT apply a tourniquet, ice, heat, or attempt to suck out venom
5. Call your vet immediately
