🐾Meet the nurses🐾

Ask a vet what their most needed item is for them to do their job, and they will reply “the vet nurses”. Our vet nurses and VCA’s are responsible for a lot of the day to day jobs that many of our clients do not see. They are the silent superheroes. They are with your animal from start to finish during their stay with us. From admits, to monitoring general anaesthesia, making sure your animal recovers pain free, and saying goodbye on discharge. They also do the majority of our lab work, including taking bloods and microscopy. You may even see our nurses during nurse consults whenever your animal needs a manicure and pedicure. They will care for your animal when they are sick, making sure they are clean, medicated, and provided with plenty of kisses and cuddles.

Meet Frankie one of our VIPs who popped in to see the nurses for a tick removal.

🐾 Tick season is here!

Even with tick prevention, always check your dogs and cats after they've been exploring outdoors—especially around the ears, paws, and belly.

Found a tick? Give us a call to book a tick removal with one of our nurses.
If you remove it at home and part of the tick remains, please contact us right away.

✅ Do:

Use a proper tick removal tool
Grasp the tick close to the skin and twist / pull gently, steadily

❌ Don't:

Squeeze the tick’s body
Use tweezers, heat, alcohol or oils

We're here to help keep your pup safe and healthy! 🐶💕

🐾 Meet Otis, a charming feline who recently visited our clinic after his owner noticed one of her gold necklaces had gone missing — and suspected Otis may have helped himself to some unexpected sparkle. ✨

Abdominal X-rays confirmed her suspicions: the necklace was indeed in Otis’ stomach. He was promptly scheduled for an exploratory laparotomy to safely remove the jewellery.

Otis recovered well from surgery and spent one night in out-of-hours care before returning to us. However, he developed reduced gut motion, which led to Otis refusing to eat.

To support his recovery, Otis remained hospitalised for the following week, receiving IV fluids, medications, and nutritional support via a feeding tube.

We’re pleased to report that Otis made a full recovery and is now back home with his family — hopefully steering clear of jewellery in the future!

He was an incredibly sweet and well-behaved patient throughout his stay, and our nursing team is still singing his praises. 💛

🐛🌳 Oak Processionary Moth 🌳🐛

Oak Processionary Moth is in our local area and can be a hazard to human and animal health, so should be avoided! 🐾

⚠️In our canine friends it can cause skin, eye and mouth irritation, ranging from mild symptoms to difficulties breathing, vomiting and lethargy.

☎️Seek urgent care if you think your dog has been exposed to Oak Processionary Moth ‼️

🐛🌳What to Look Out For:

• Clusters of caterpillars on oak trees
• Long, white, silk-like nests

Be alert : Keep a look out at entrances to green spaces as there are usually notices up and you'll see posters pinned to trees which are affected. 🌳⚠️🐛

🚨 Oak Processionary Moth (OPM) 🚨
We know that OPM is present in various parts of the borough. If you notice OPM cases on Elmbridge land near your home, please report them to us https://ow.ly/TEQA50VPiz6. Our team will visit and assess the sightings

🐾 Brave Boy Fred🐱

Say hello to Fred Sparkle! This cheeky chap recently came to us for his neutering procedure- quickly making himself at home. 🐾 He did a fantastic job at charming our team.

His castration went smoothly, and he was carefully monitored during recovery. He headed home later that afternoon and we’ve been in regular contact with his owners to check on his progress.

We’re happy to report he is doing brilliantly! 💪🐱

Neutering is a routine procedure with lots of health and behavioural benefits — and Fred’s a shining example of just how well our furry friends can handle it!

🐰 ☀️ Bunny Parents, Listen Up!☀️🐰

Flystrike is no joke — it’s a serious and painful condition that can become life-threatening within hours.

🪰 What is it?
Flies lay eggs on your bunny or in their home, and when those eggs hatch... the maggots can cause severe infections and toxic shock. It’s most common in warmer months but can happen anytime.

🐇 Here’s how you can help protect your rabbit

✅ Keep their toilet area clean daily
✅ Check under their tail daily (yes, every day!)
✅ Feed a good diet to prevent soft faeces
✅ Keep your bunny fit so they can groom properly
✅ Encourage hopping around – no lazy buns!
✅ Ask us about preventative fly treatments which can be applied

🚨 *What to do if you see maggots?*

This is a medical emergency please ensure you call us immediately or contact an out of hours vets for urgent veterinary treatment❗

💕🐇✨Let’s keep your bunnies safe, healthy, and hoppy! 🐾

Older bunnies or bunnies who are unwell or injured are much more prone to flystrike because they are less likely to move around or groom themselves. Contact our vet team if you have any concerns!
