Yesterday supported volunteer Dan, Askham Bryan work placement student Nastia and Camphill student Terri-Lea learned all about how to correctly tack up and untack. They had to find a slightly smaller girth to fit Sunny as he has grown slimmer over the summer months.

Love it that our ponies are photobombing the fabulous picture! ❤️

Our Camphill Wakefield students had a very busy morning!
They brought the horses in and dried them off. Then they were given the task of ‘weighing’ our horses. (We do this with a ‘weigh’ tape measure which you can see Lucy holding in the photo) We have been monitoring our horses weights every 4 weeks to ensure they do not gain weight.
Once they had been weighed the students had to work out whether they’d Lost, Maintained, or Gained weight by doing some subtraction.
They wrote the results on the chart in the photo.
They were very pleased that there were no gains! And they awarded Sunny the ‘Slimmer of the month’ as he had the biggest loss.
Please note the horses aren’t on a diet - we are just making sure they get the exact amount of hay every day for their weight - rather than ‘approximations’. A bit more here and a bit more there all adds up!
They finished the morning by filling hay nets by following our feed chart.
Well done everyone!

At our vet event on Wednesday we had the opportunity to present Coach Chris Rush with her 30 year service award and a lovely bouquet. What an achievement!
Chris has coached over most days, but in recent years she has been our regular coach on Sundays. She has seen many children grow up and blossom. ❤️

Yesterday’s sessions were all about circles, half circles and figure of eights. The focus was on accuracy and making sure the circles were nice and round. There were definitely no ‘squircles’. (Which is a cross between a square and a circle!)
Well done everyone.
