Bird's Bears Polymer Clay Artist, Author, Film Maker Hi my name is Birdy Heywood. Welcome to my page devoted to my Bear Creations. I was heart broken! I had my own bear again!

Bears have always had a special place in my heart especially because at the tender age of two, a naughty little girl came into my parent's garden and stole my 3 cuddly Teddy Bears. I watched in dismay as she disappeared through a gap in the hedge, my bears tucked under her arm. At the age of 13 I went to visit my relations in Germany and my Uncle Dieter won a bright yellow bear for me on a fairgro

und. I named him 'Onkel Dieter Teddy Buehler'! I bonded with him instantly. I became very homesick and missed my mum, dad brothers and sister in England, so it was organised that Dad would meet me at Ostend and take me back home. All the way back on the ferry to England I buried my head in the soft body of my bear and sobbed my heart out. I still remember the smell of his bright yellow fur which tickled my nose and mingled with my tears. Even now, the sweet smell of wood shavings he was stuffed with always remind me of the comfort that bear gave me. Why was I crying? My mother and father weren't getting on at all and Dad was planning on leaving my Mum and brothers and sister and relocating with me to Germany. I cried so much and created such a fuss in Ostend that Dad agreed to travel back with me and Onkel Dieter Teddy Buehler to Mum and my siblings. Sadly a few months later our family dog chewed up Onkel Dieter Teddy Buehler! Sad, yes but many years later I discovered my talent for sculpting with Polymer Clay I can now create as many bears as I want! To me the cuddly toy bear signifies comfort and the feeling of protection. Its wild counterpart, a real live wild bear, signifies strength and freedom. I began writing stories in the year 2000 based on a tribe of Spirit Bears. They have yet to be published as I still have a few more tales to tell about their many adventures. Meet 'Little Hawk The Awareness Bear' and his friends who have discovered wonderful things about themselves and how we to could live in harmony with Mother Earth and her inhabitants.

I have sadly been neglecting my Bear Page lately as my dragons seem to have taken over. I do however have the little Bears of The Rainbow Tribe sitting here on a shelf waiting for loving homes.

I was busy all day yesterday creating little tiny bears holding crystals to go into a shop in Hastings called 'Stone Corner.' Whist making the teeny tiny bears I decided to create a set of 'See, hear and speak no evil.'

I also worked on a commission.... a dragon playing the harp. Once they had all cooled down after baking I laid them on the work surface and went to bed.... it wasn't until this morning that I noticed what a lovely time they had been having listening to the harp player so I had to take a photo!

Bears and Dragons are my greatest love also little Fairy Folk so a few may creep in here to join the bears sometimes. I also have a page devoted to my dragons here on Facebook.

You see they are all great friends and often my oven is full of a mixture of little Polymer Clay Creatures i have created. Bears, Dragons, Fairy Folk, Cats, Dogs and lots of beautiful Polymer Clay Beads.
