Treraven Farm

Treraven Farm Treraven Farm is owned by the Gaia Trust, a UK Registered Charity and managed according to their mission of "farming for people and wildlife".

A sanctuary for wildlife and accessible green space. www.facebook.com/groups/TreravenFarm page is for sharing links to Treraven Farm events and updates - and for anyone to share any links connected to climate, ecology, biodiversity, animals, plants, farming, forestry, resilience, outdoor play, biology education, rural skills, survival skills, forest schools etc. Treraven Farm lies along t

he old cart track between Guineaport in Wadebridge and Burlawn. It is part open-access woodland and saltmarsh nature-reserve and part privately dairy farmed - with overlap of nature-reserve and farmed areas in the central open-access hay meadows. The map is here: http://goo.gl/maps/6srsb

It is owned by The Gaia Trust, which owns several properties in Cornwall and Devon. All are managed according to their mission of "farming for people and wildlife". The Gaia Trust demonstrates that economically viable farming can not just coexist with, but actively benefit from:

*Protecting and enhancing indigenous flora and fauna, particularly endangered species.

*Exploring and trialling sustainable land management practices and sharing our work with others.

*Encouraging managed access to our visitor-friendly properties, and working to make them more physically and intellectually accessible

*Encouraging community involvement through volunteering, educational and other activities.

*Raising public awareness related to environmental and ecological issues, sustainable land management and traditional crafts and skills. http://www.gaiatrust.org.uk/about.html

Hi all,

Our lovely pigs will be leaving Treraven Farm in early September to return to their home in St Ives. Bella, Ruby and Ginger have been with us for 4 years and in that time they have cleared 5 large areas of scrub land and enable us to plant over a 1000 trees. We'll all be sad to say goodbye to the pigs but we still have 4 months to spoil them with tasty scraps of veg, fruit and bread.

Hi all
We all agree that Treraven is important to people as well as to wildlife and farming. We recognise that how we manage it can raise questions.
As always I'm very happy to chat with anyone about what we are doing at Treraven Farm and why we are doing it. It's much better to ask and get the truth directly from me than guess or assume and get things wrong.

Sadly a person recently verbally attacked one of my much valued volunteers, making accusations totally without merit and ruining their time volunteering . This is completely unacceptable.

Our volunteers are the backbone of the work we do at Treraven, we couldn't continue without them so please, if you have an issue with anything at Treraven farm direct your questions to me.
Thank you
Richard

Come and join the butterfly monitoring team at Treraven Farm.

You can either come for a one-off walk or join us for the regular weekly walks (as many as you are able to attend) during the summer months from start of April to end of September.

No previous knowledge required.

Children attending with a responsible adult are welcome. We particularly welcome their keener eyesight!

Our butterfly counts are added to the national statistics gathered by Butterfly Conservation each year, following a scheme set up in 1976.

We lost around 100 trees during storm Goretti, we've tried to open up the most popular walking routes but there's still lots of work to do. Be aware there are some trees leaning at precarious angles that could fall at any time, we will get to them as soon as we can.

Richard and the Treraven volunteers are working hard to keep paths open and free from overgrown shrubs, and taking back areas where shrubs have spread into the fields. Don't worry though, there is still plenty of scrub cover for birds, insects and small mammals.
