Isle of Wight Search For Fun Dogs

Isle of Wight Search For Fun Dogs Isle of Wight Search for fun dogs was set up to give dog enthusiasts on the Island a different, fun and rewarding training experience with thier dog.

I retired from the Metroploitan Police in my capacity as a dog handler after 42 years in 2014. My wife and I moved to the Island shortly after our retirement and it was then that idea for the "search for fun" group was born. With so many dog enthusiasts on the Island, I wanted to share my skills, knowledge and experience to give people a fun, different and rewarding way of training and bonding wit

h thier dogs. I am running various different courses, both group and one to one, all with an emphasis on fun and responsible dog ownership. Search and tracking are my passion and you can find more information on my page about each course. I am available for some one to one training if you are having difficulty with your dog, however I am not a behavioural specialist. If I feel I am unable to help you, I will refer you on. Please get in touch if you have any questions, I'm looking forward to meeting you all out and about with your dogs.

Dear All, Sadly I have to tell you all that Badger passed away last night. He had had a short illness but went down hill very fast and although we got him into the vet hospital at Carisbrook there was little they could do for him but to make him comfy and pain free. So to the spirit of Badger and all of my previous working dogs I want to say 'thank you'
It has been an honour to have worked with such magnificent dogs throughout my career . When I needed their support it was given, needed their courage it was given, nothing was ever asked in return .They were with me through the worst of times, never failing in their loyalty.....as I frequently said ' we have little idea of just what our dogs are capable of', nd they ask so little in return. So tonight lets raise a glass to all of our dogs,no matter what role they play...we are all honoured to have them.

Dear all.Firstly my apologies for not contacting you all sooner. I have had some health issues over the past few months and like most men I have buried my head in the sand until they have come back to bite me on the bum!! Until I have sorted them out ( they are not terminal!!) I am going to take an enforced pause in dog training so will not be running any classes this Spring or doing any one to one training. I am sorry if this is a disappointment to you but I want to claim my pension from the Government for many years to come so I need to get my health sorted first. Again sorry but hope to be up and running again in the near future....Gerry

Dear all, Due to the forecast of extreme cold weather I think it best if we put the tracking day off for a week or two till the ground is less hard, hope this is ok with you all. I will post a date soon

Recently back from overdue holiday around the Med with P&O to find the damned computer is playing silly b # # # # # # s with me again ( yes I know its me and not the machine) but i'm on a mind set of George Orwells 1984 where machines and big brother dominate!!...so if you have sent me a message I'm not ignoring you but I am going to short circuit my laptop.I promise to sort it and reply to you all if your asking for one to one sessions Trust my ladies tracking group is going from strength to strength . Wishing you all a happy and merry Christmas ( I'm old school and I DONT do happy holiday type greetings) start thinking for spring and if anyone is in touch with Anne let her know that an old colleague of mine breeds and shows working wire haired Datshunds....Tecs !!!

All good things must come to an end. What a great group of dogs and handlers to teach, its been a pleasure and delight. For our final night I went for a long walk and you had to track me.....and you were all brilliant!!! The heavens opened and then cleared with a rainbow!! Many thanks for the cards and Vino!! ( Bridget , I have your certificate in my car,got the wine, thank you ,PM me and I'll drop it off to you )
You all have wonderful dogs so don't stop now , keep going and improving what you are doing , you and your dogs will gain so much from it. Don't be afraid to experiment or go back to basics but have FUN with your dogs. I will keep the page open during the Winter and if you need help just message me.Keep in touch with each other and on good tracking days meet up and go for a long track.....many thanks to you all....Gerry.

Well folks , didn't tell them they were being tested until they had all completed their test tracks....all passed!!..despite strong winds and recently cut fields to track across . You all did your dogs credit and they responded to you all so well. Its been a delight to teach you but you need to continue now and push harder with what you now know your dogs are capable of doing. Don't be frightened to try new things or to revisit the basics but most importantly....have FUN with your dogs... next week is the last week so we will meet at Ventnor Downs, first small car park on the right after the cattle grid.....Well done.
