Meet the Coach: Mr Molloy ๐Ÿ‘

We're delighted to introduce Mr Molloy, one of the coaches leading our new Hockey Performance Pathway.

A highly experienced player and coach, Mr Molloy has:

โ€ข Played 300+ first-team games for Didsbury Northern HC
โ€ข Represented Lancashire Senior Men's Hockey
โ€ข Coached at Didsbury Northern for 10 years
โ€ข Served as Head Coach at Manchester Metropolitan University
โ€ข Continues to play competitively for Leek HC

His extensive experience across club, county and university hockey, combined with his continued involvement in the game as a player, enables him to help young athletes develop not only their technical skills, but also the tactical awareness, decision-making and competitive mindset needed to perform at a higher level.

Yesterday, in the sunshine, our Year 8 pupils headed out to the farm to begin planting pumpkin seeds and seedlings, having already prepared the ground ready for this year's crop.

It's one small part of what makes Abbotsholme's Carousel Programme so distinctive. While many young people learn about food production from a textbook, our pupils experience it first-hand - gaining an understanding of farming, sustainability and regenerative practices by getting their hands dirty and seeing the process unfold over time.

Just as importantly, they develop skills that simply can't be replaced by AI: teamwork, communication, resilience, problem-solving and a genuine connection to the natural world.

We look forward to seeing the results come harvest time this autumn! ๐ŸŽƒ

Why is Performing Arts part of our Carousel Programme?

Because confidence is a skill that deserves to be practised.

Standing on a stage, acting, dancing and singing challenges pupils to step outside their comfort zone, take risks and learn to express themselves. The confidence built under the spotlight doesnโ€™t stay thereโ€ฆ

It becomes the confidence to answer a question in class, share an idea in a group discussion, speak in an assembly, interview for a prefect position, lead a team, or perform in front of an audience.

Beyond school, it becomes the confidence to walk into a university interview, introduce yourself at a networking event, contribute in meetings, speak to new people, present to colleagues, apply for opportunities, and take on challenges that might otherwise feel intimidating.

Not every pupil will go on to pursue performing arts professionally, but every pupil will benefit from learning how to communicate, collaborate and believe in themselves.

That is why Performing Arts sits proudly alongside Agriculture, Outdoor Education and Equestrian within our Carousel Programme - helping pupils develop the confidence, resilience and life skills that will serve them long after they leave Abbotsholme.

When people think about independent schools, they often think they know what to expect.

At Abbotsholme, we like to do things a little differently.

A working farm. Outdoor learning. Small class sizes. Creative opportunities. Elite sport. Strong pastoral care. A school where every child is truly known.

These are the distinctive opportunities that help young people discover who they are and who they could become.

And perhaps most importantly? Abbotsholme is more accessible than many families think.

Curious about Abbotsholme? We'd love to hear from you.

We are delighted to launch Abbotsholme Theatre Academy: Triple Threat this summer.

Designed for young performers aged 11โ€“17, this exciting Musical Theatre Workshop will bring together singing, acting and dance in a fun, supportive and energetic environment.

The idea has grown from something our Head of Performing Arts, Mr Lewis, is incredibly passionate about. Having seen the wealth of talented young people across our local area, and recognising the lack of a dedicated theatre and stage school nearby, he wanted to create an opportunity for aspiring performers to develop their skills, build confidence and experience high-quality musical theatre training closer to home.

Whether you're already a seasoned performer or simply love being on stage, Triple Threat is all about encouraging creativity, developing performance skills and having fun with like-minded young people.

As we head into the final half term of the academic year, the calendar is full with all the things that make Abbotsholme so distinctive.

From camps and trips to sports fixtures, performances, celebrations and end-of-year events, the next few weeks promise to be gloriously busy.

It's a wonderful reminder that education extends far beyond the classroom and our vibrant community.

Here's to a fantastic final stretch of the school year!

On your marksโ€ฆ

The Friday before half term was Senior Sports Day, one of those days that always seems to bring plenty of smiles, laughter and a bit of healthy competition. Even the PE team were grinning by the end of it, despite the organisational stress that comes beforehand!

We firmly believe that Sports Day should be about that โ€˜have a go attitudeโ€™, giving your best and supporting each other - something we actively encourage at Abbotsholme.

There were school records broken, including an epic javelin throw from Head Girl Miya, leaving yet another mark of her time here. There was plenty of good old-fashioned house rivalry too, with Wainwright lifting the cup at the end of the day.

Most importantly, there was fantastic encouragement from peers, staff and parents throughout, creating the kind of atmosphere that makes Sports Day such a highlight of the year.

A great day all round.

Nowโ€ฆ on your marksโ€ฆ itโ€™s the final stretch of the school year, and as always itโ€™s going to be a busy one!

Congratulations to Kyle, who last week attended a special celebration in the Gardens of Buckingham Palace to mark the achievement of his Gold Duke of Edinburghโ€™s Award.

Kyle was the first of this yearโ€™s Sixth Form students to receive his Gold Award and was joined by a number of our recent Sixth Form leavers, who also successfully completed the programme.

The Gold DofE Award is a remarkable achievement, requiring dedication, resilience and commitment over an extended period. Alongside physically and mentally demanding expeditions, participants complete at least 12 months of volunteering, as well as a skills and physical section, helping to develop confidence, character and a broader understanding of the world around them.

At Abbotsholme, we are incredibly proud of our long tradition of Duke of Edinburghโ€™s Award success. The programme reflects so much of what we value as a school: challenging young people, encouraging service to others, building resilience and providing opportunities that help pupils grow into capable, well-rounded individuals.

Well done, Kyle, and our other students who have completed their Gold DofE - a fantastic achievement and one that should be celebrated!
