Here are this week’s students.

Aaron is going into his final year at Liverpool Vet School. This is his second time seeing practice with us, and is coming back for his elective project in May. His favourite animal is the Elf Owl, and he hopes to be an avian surgeon.

Molly is also at Liverpool and going into fourth year. She doesn’t have a specific career objective at the moment, but will hopefully start off in mixed practice (an excellent place to start). But she will know quite a lot more about rabbits and exotics!

Something didn’t go quite right with the last post, so am trying again as I’m sure many of our clients would love to nominate staff members, or the whole practice, for the PetPlan Awards 2026.

You don’t have to be a PetPlan client!

It’s that time of year again for the PetPlan Awards. Nominations close in about 2 weeks.

These nominations give the opportunity for clients to nominate a practice, a vet nurse or a vet for outstanding care and service.

Awards are judged by an independent panel after being short listed by PetPlan staff.

This is not a vote, but decided on the quality and strength of nominations.

If you feel you’d like to nominate the practice and/or team members please follow the link. We’d all really appreciate it, and will help to raise the profile of the practice and the amazing team.

We are pleased to announce that Molly Varga Smith has been made a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

There were only 39 created this year, and fewer than 2% of UK vets are Fellows.

Quote from the RCVS website:
‘The title of RCVS Fellow represents the pinnacle of veterinary achievement, recognising veterinary surgeons who have made outstanding contributions to the profession.’

Great news!

Laura competed in her archery class at the British Transplant Games this morning. And won Gold!!!

Congratulations to her for such an achievement. We’re hoping she brings the medal into the practice for us all to see it.

So the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow have just finished.

What many people won’t know is that the British Transplant Games take place in Sheffield this week. And we are very proud that Laura, who many will have met on reception, is taking part.

As you can guess from the photo, Laura is competing in the archery contests on Thursday. We wish her good luck.

Craig and I have recorded a session looking at palliative care for guinea pigs.
The end of an animals life is just as important as the beginning and there is so much we can do to make this time better and happier for everybody.
It’s never ‘Just a….’ It’s your animal that you care about, and so do we. Keeping older pets well for as long as they are still enjoying life 🐇🐍🦜🐢🦎🐀🦆🐱🐰🐹🐭🐸🐔🦉

Our From Page to Practice series connects veterinary professionals directly with the expertise of BSAVA authors and editors, helping bring key concepts from our publications into everyday clinical practice.

In this session, Molly Varga Smith and Craig Tessyman explore palliative care for elderly guinea pigs, sharing practical approaches to supporting ageing patients through assessment, management of age-related conditions, and individualised care.

Developed to complement the BSAVA Manual of Guinea Pigs, this webinar provides additional clinical insight to help you apply the guidance from the book in real-world cases.

Available to all veterinary professionals for a limited time before becoming a BSAVA member benefit.

Today we welcome Jen as the newest addition to our vet team.

Jen is no stranger to us, and has spent a lot of time with us over the last few years.

Before going to vet school she gained a PhD!

She lives in Trafford, and is really interested in rabbits and wildlife. Her own rabbits have even been patients of the practice.

We have two Liverpool Vet students with us at the moment.

Jasmine would like to be an orthopaedic surgeon, and her favourite animals are dogs.

Isobel’s favourite animals are chickens, and her claim to fame is she was part of a Liverpool University team on University Challenge. Sadly they didn’t win.
