✨ Client Review Spotlight ✨

I’m so grateful for this gorgeous review from Olga. Her poodles are always an absolute joy to have in the salon, and it means the world to me to know she’s happy with their grooms — from their seasonal trims to the little finishing touches that make them look like show dogs.

I'm so please with how Kashtanka's teeth have improved too. Dental care is such an important part of overall wellbeing, and I’m so glad it’s making a difference for them.

Thank you, Olga, for trusting me with your beautiful pups and for taking the time to share such kind words. 🐾🖤

🦷✨ Emmi‑Pet Teeth Cleaning at Bloomingtails
One of my favourite little add‑on services at the moment is our Emmi‑Pet ultrasonic teeth cleaning — especially for dogs who aren’t keen on traditional brushing.

The Emmi‑Pet is completely silent, vibration‑free and non‑invasive, which means even the more sensitive souls can relax while we work. The ultrasonic waves and special toothpaste help to gently break down plaque and bacteria, freshen breath, and support healthier gums over time.

I always work at each dog’s pace, with plenty of reassurance and breaks if they need them. Some dogs settle straight in, others take a session or two to build confidence — and that’s absolutely fine.

If you’ve noticed:
• Whiffy breath
• Yellowing teeth
• Early tartar build‑up
• Or your dog simply won’t let you brush at home…

…this might be a lovely option for them.

If you’d like more info on how it works, pricing, or whether it would suit your dog, just send me a message. Happy to help you decide what’s best for your pup’s smile 🐶💛🦷

🐾 Myth Busting: Shaving Double‑Coated Breeds

Let’s talk about one of the biggest grooming myths out there — and one I get asked about all the time.

“If my dog is hot, shouldn’t I shave them?”
For double‑coated breeds… the answer is almost always no.

❌ Myth: Shaving keeps them cooler
Double‑coated dogs (like Labs, Collies, Huskies, Shepherds, Pomeranians, Retrievers etc.) have two layers:
• A soft undercoat for insulation
• A harsher topcoat for protection

These layers work together to regulate temperature — keeping them warm in winter and cool in summer. Shaving removes that natural temperature control.

❌ Myth: It grows back the same
Shaving can permanently change the coat.
You often see:
• Patchy regrowth
• Coarse, fuzzy texture
• Loss of the protective topcoat
• Increased shedding
• Coat that never returns to normal

Once the coat cycle is disrupted, it may never fully recover.

❌ Myth: It’s the best way to reduce shedding
Shaving doesn’t stop shedding — it just makes the hairs shorter.
Regular de‑shedding, brushing, and proper coat maintenance is far more effective.

✔️ So what should you do instead?
• Regular de‑shedding sessions
• Thorough brushing to remove loose undercoat
• Bath & blow‑dry to lift dead coat
• Keep them in the shade
• Provide cool mats, fresh water, and airflow
• Avoid midday heat

A well‑maintained double coat is the best cooling system they have.

🐶 When shaving might be necessary
There are rare exceptions:
• Severe matting
• Medical reasons
• Elderly dogs who can’t tolerate brushing
• Welfare concerns

But these are case‑by‑case decisions, always with the dog’s comfort first.

✨ Groomer’s Favourite Tool of the Week ✨

I’m absolutely loving our triangular slicker brush at the moment — it’s become one of my go‑to tools in the parlour.

The clever little triangular head lets me get right into those tricky spots like armpits, behind the ears, and under the chin, without pulling or causing discomfort. It’s also the perfect size for round faces and smaller dogs, giving me lovely control while keeping everything gentle.

The ultra‑fine pins glide through the coat beautifully, helping me lift out dead undercoat without damaging the topcoat — ideal for curly, woolly and longer coats.

Sometimes it’s the small tools that make the biggest difference, and this one is definitely earning its place on my grooming table.

✨ Big Dog Appreciation ✨
Today we’re celebrating our gentle giants — the big, beautiful dogs who fill the parlour with even bigger hearts.

From the slow blinks to the full‑body tail wags, the leaning cuddles, the goofy grins and the “I’m actually a lap dog” energy… we adore every single bit of them.

Here’s to the Newfies, Shepherds, Rotties, Labs, Mastiffs, Doodles and every oversized sweetheart who trots through our doors. You make our days brighter and our grooming tables wobble just a little.

Big dogs, big love.

The rumours are true… Bloomingtails is opening a Doggy Daycare!
Doggy PlayDates are officially on the way, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the first little peek with you.

It’s still very bare‑bones at the moment (just empty rooms and a whole lot of imagination!), but behind the scenes we’re creating a calm, safe, enriching space designed entirely around your dogs’ wellbeing — right here in our countryside location in Upton, Didcot.

Our new daycare will feature 864 sq ft of indoor space and 8,000 sq ft of secure outdoor grass area, giving dogs plenty of room to play, explore, and relax. It’s a small, intimate setting, capped at no more than 20 dogs per day, so every pup gets the attention and care they deserve.

✨ Opening July 2026
📍 Located at Bloomingtails, Upton, Didcot
🐾 Exclusively for Bloomingtails clients

We’ll be offering structured play, gentle socialisation, enrichment, rest time, and a home‑from‑home environment — all with the same welfare‑first approach you already know us for.

More updates coming soon as the space starts to take shape.
We can’t wait to welcome your pups for their Bloomingtails PlayDates.
