Horses need constant access to forage, no matter what time of year.

We encourage trickle feeding through varied holed nets here but it is ALWAYS available day & night, 365 days a year and via multiple netted boxes or occassionally loose for those that benefit from it 💕

Horses aren’t designed to go for long periods, day or night, without gut movement so if you have to stable (obviously we don’t here) make sure you give PLENTY of hay over night so that they don’t run out 💗

The beauty of track systems is that they can have this constant access all year round, through a variety of sources to encourage movement and NOT have to be shut in stables. So much better for those with health and mobility issues 💗

Obviously we are set up so that our residents always have access to hay, water and shelter and plenty of hard standing loafing areas and softer places to sleep.

Those that can have grass, have paddock access in winter; those that can’t have a smaller surfaced track. Every horse is different and we adapt as best we can to recognise and support that where we can. For many, the constant movement, free from stabling, is a godsend and for others, being able to interact in a herd is bliss. Being able to reach those itchy bits with the help of a friend 😘

So tonight, water butts filled and taps covered in readiness for the big freeze…….we even have rugs on some of the ponies but they will still be outside, with their friends, forage & freedom 😘😁☃️

🙏🏻💗 knowing how we’ve been affected by the increase in hay prices, I can imagine how much this must be affecting much needed charities like this with so many souls to care for 🙁 If anyone can help, even just a little…..🙏🏻

Can’t recommend Ruth Fisher- Bit and Bridle Fitting Consultant highly enough.

We met through recommendation initially for a bit and bridle check but quickly realised Ruth was exactly the kind of person i wanted to work with on the ground and in the saddle. So intuitive & knowledgeable and willing to listen to what is presenting on the day and tailor and adapt accordingly.

Someone who listens, can think outside the box and take a completely holistic approach.

Again…..I can’t rate Ruth highly enough but then I’m sure she must know that by now 😘

So….of you’re along this route, you would be very lucky to get on her books 🙏🏻

Making feeds up day……perhaps I should just stand out in the rain a little more and let them lick it off 🙅‍♀️ saves cleaning the bowls 🤦‍♀️
