We have many permanent residents ranging from dogs, cats, small furries, reptiles and farm animals.
07763646257 this phone operates 9am - 6pm Wanderers Haven Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1961 by Mrs Geraldine Wagstaff in her family home in Ramsgate, Kent. The Sanctuary has been at its current location in Cranham, Essex since July 1976. We have rescued all sorts of animals ranging from horses,

ponies, goats, sheep, ducks, geese, chickens, cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, other small animals, birds etc. We have a non destruction order so any animals that come into our care stay with us until they are rehomed. Certain animals which cannot be rehomed due to past problems and issues live at the sanctuary. All dogs and cats rehomed are neutered before adoption, if animals aren't old enough, a neutering agreement will be signed by new owners. All our animals are rehomed on a Life Time Adoption. This means that for whatever reason new owners can no longer care for the animal, they must be returned to the sanctuary. No matter how long the animal has been rehomed for. Animals that are microchipped stay in the Sanctuary's name, with new owners added. If the animal is lost and scanned the Sanctuary and new owner are notified. We are a non profit organisation and recieve no government funding. Your donations of money, newspapers, bedding and items to sell at boot sales are only what keep us going. This money will then be put on our account and help us out a great deal. Hill Park Vets in either Harold Hill 01708 344455 or Elm Park 01708 458424 under the account 'Wanderers Haven Animal Sanctuary'. we could not keep our gates open if it wasn't for the generous members of the public.

Sonny is still looking for a new home 🐾

Sonny is still looking for a new home 🐾

Sonny is approximately 3years old.
We aren’t sure of Sonny’s past up to approximately 6-8 months of age. He was found in a country lane amongst fly-tipped rubbish and was extremely scared and shut down. It took him a long time to settle and accept people but once he did, he has become a very daft, loving and lively boy!
Sonny does have specific needs so please read Sonny’s full description before applying.
He can be very enthusiastic at times – sometimes this can be too much but he will eventually calm. A home where someone is around all the time is a must for Sonny at least initially. He will need as long as it takes to transition into his new surroundings and routine.
Sonny is a large cross breed.
Sonny must live with another dog that is medium to large in size and that is of a balanced nature. Preferably a spayed female.
Sonny can live in an adult-only home or where there are teenagers as well.
Sonny will require multiple visits from potential new owners so he can build a bond with you and your dog. Sonny will need to feel comfortable around you before adoption takes place.
Sonny warms quicker to ladies over men but will trust new men eventually.
He is a very happy dog in familiar surroundings and company. Once he is bonded with you this is a great step in having him feel comfortable elsewhere hence why he will need multiple visits initially. We know he will settle into a new home – he just needs time and patience.
A home with no cats is preferred.
If you would like to apply to adopt Sonny please contact us via email [email protected] or telephone 07763 646257 🐕 🐾

Cane is still looking for his new home. He is a lovely boy 🐾

Cane is looking for a new home.
He is approximately 7years old and a Shepherd cross.
Cane is a gentle giant and is very loving and loyal. He can be quite timid of new people and situations but as long as you're there for him showing him its OK, he begins to relax.
Cane is strong on lead in particular when he is anxious and unsure of his surroundings.
Once he's comfortable around you and where he is he walks well on lead.
He loves being out and about and loves his toys.
Cane is looking for a new home with no cats. Cane can live with older teenagers but not young children.
Cane could live with a medium to large breed female that is confident and not too lively. He would also be quite happy as the only dog.

We have no history on Cane so do not know how he would behave if left at home alone. This is something he would have to gradually get used to if this was needed. Because of this we would let him be adopted to where someone in the home will be able to work with Cane so he can eventually be left for short periods (if this needed work).
A retired couple would be ideal providing they are able to manage his size and strength.
Shepherd or similar breed experience is a must.
Please email
[email protected] or call 07763646257 if you feel you could offer Cane a new home 🏡 🐾

This afternoon we received a call from a member of the public reporting a large tortoise had been found in a box at the side of the road down Avontar Road, South Ockendon and was covered in flies.
Essex Tortoise Group went to check it out and sadly the tortoise was confirmed deceased.
We attended to scan the tortoise for a microchip and bring the tortoise away. The tortoise was not chipped. The tortoise was a female Sulcata weighing approximately 10kg.
We think she had been dead for a few days due to her condition. Neighbours said the box/crate that she was in wasn't there early last night.
The tortoise is now with Hill Park Vets, Harold Hill in cold storeage and will go for cremation at the end of next week. A very sad find 😔
If anyone has any information regarding this please contact either ourselves or the Essex Tortoise Group.
