Trust your horse to go forward

Probably one of the biggest sticking points for many: horses crunched up from a rider who is afraid to let go- and when they are let go they are snatched back up. Fear! It’s insidious. There is no judgment here of the human for being afraid

But

How can a horse ever trust a person who cannot learn to let go of them?

The reality is, a horse in forward motion is far safer than one being restrained. A horse restrained perpetually is a horse set up for implosion. Now THAT is scary

And a horse in BALANCED forward motion is the safest place to be on the planet

Do the work to create the balance
And then trust it, and let the horse move

Been a bit quiet on the training front having picked a couple of injuries. 🤕🤕
I damaged the soft tissue in my foot and took a heavy tumble on the gallops ( completely my fault) which led to substantial brusing. 🤕🤕 and a bit of concussion.
Ive continued to ride out throughout and will be back in the gym tomorrow. 💪💪💪
Its easy to think cause I ride most days this wont be a challenge.....but having done 2 now let me tell you it is ! 🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️
Nothing fully prepares you for racing than riding in races. 🏇🏇🏇.

Thanks as always to John Morris for providing my mount for the race 🥰

Please consider a donation no matter how small to this worthwhile cause 🙏🙏

Riding is a privilege not a right. Its common to say a horses maximum weight to carry is 20% of its body weight. Remember to include your tack and riding gear in your calculations. This lady worked our hers weighed 2 stone meaning 15% is a better figure to work to. With multiple on line courses there is no excuse for lack of rider fitness. A balanced rider with core stability will always be easier for the horse to carry making injury less likely.

Looks more like a heavy weight hunter now but hes enjoying his retirement.

He's a lean mean eventing machine but he won't be going anywhere this weekend, sadly made the decision to withdraw from BRC qualifiers this weekend due to the ground conditions. Even his special silicone pads won't do much when the ground is this hard.

Been missing out for a while, but its ok, horse first not the sport. Oscar is feeling well but I ll bide my time.

Been missing out for a while, but its ok, horse first not the sport. Oscar is feeling well but I ll bide my time.

FOMO is real this week.

Seeing everyone at Bolesworth International — sunshine, stunning horses, amazing rounds — and I’m sat at home. I should be there. I want to be there. But my mare’s just not quite right, and I knew deep down the right call was to stay home.

It’s so hard doing the right thing when your heart is screaming to be in the ring, in that atmosphere, part of it all. When you’ve worked so hard for this. But horses don’t care about our plans or timelines. They need us to listen when something’s off — even when it breaks our own heart a bit.

So yes, I’m feeling left behind. Yes, I’m watching every story and reel and wishing I was there. But I’m trying to remind myself that doing right by your horse is never the wrong decision. And there will be other shows, other days, and when we go, we’ll go stronger for it.

To everyone out there chasing their goals this week — good luck, ride your hearts out. And to anyone else at home for whatever reason — I see you too. 💛
