One jump. Two poles. A fantastic foundation for your young horse's jumping career! 🐴

This simple exercise teaches your horse to find the correct take-off and landing spots, encourages a better bascule and helps develop natural jumping technique.

The key is consistency! Keep the jump small, build confidence and allow good technique to become a habit.

✅ Better take-off and landing spots
✅ Improved jumping technique
✅ Confidence-building
✅ Perfect for young or inexperienced horses

🐴 The RIGHT Way to Introduce Your Young Horse to Bounces!

Bounces are fantastic for developing balance, agility, strength and jumping technique. But introducing them incorrectly can quickly knock a young horse's confidence.

This is one of my favourite ways to introduce a horse to bounces because it makes doing the right thing the easiest option!

The setup is really simple:

🔹 Place a placing pole 2½ paces (8 feet) before the first cavaletti.

🔹 Position your second cavaletti 3 paces after the first.

🔹 Let your horse develop confidence and understand the exercise before increasing the difficulty.

🔹 Once they're comfortable, gradually increase the height to two small verticals.

🔹 Finally, remove the placing pole and introduce the bounces from canter.

The beauty of this exercise is that it encourages a good takeoff spot, allowing your horse to work everything out naturally.

And because bounces feature in so many gymnastics, getting this right opens the door to loads of other training exercises!

🐴 Hot Horse? Here's a Simple Exercise to Improve Rideability!

Not every exercise needs to be complicated to be effective!

This little polework and jumping exercise is fantastic for teaching your horse patience, obedience and adjustability.

🔹 Ride towards the jump through the trotting poles: This encourages your horse to stay relaxed, focused and patient on the approach, helping prevent rushing into the fence.

🔹 Ride through the trotting poles after the jump: This teaches your horse to come back to trot promptly after landing, rather than running off.

💡 Bonus benefits: ✔️ Better footwork and coordination ✔️ More consistent takeoff and landing spots ✔️ Improved jumping technique ✔️ Greater rideability and control

It's easy to set up, suitable for a wide range of horses, and a really useful exercise to include in your training.

🐴 Master Your Related Distances with This Simple Exercise! 🎯

Is your horse rushing through related distances? Or perhaps struggling to make the distance comfortably?

This is one of my favourite exercises for teaching horses to maintain a smooth, consistent canter between fences.

By using placing poles throughout the related distance, we can help the horse regulate its stride naturally.

🔥 Hot horses learn to slow down and stop rushing.

🐎 Short-striding horses learn to open up their canter without losing balance.

💪 Riders gain confidence knowing they're much more likely to find a good takeoff spot.

And the best part? It's incredibly easy to set up!

Whether you're training a young horse, working on adjustability, or simply wanting more confidence over related distances, give this one a try!

🐴 Master Curved Related Distances with Confidence! 🎯

Struggling to get your distances right on a curve? This is a fantastic exercise to help you develop confidence, rhythm and accuracy!

It's perfect for less experienced riders and young horses learning to negotiate related distances on a curve.

The clever setup helps you get a great jump into the related distance, making it much easier to ride the rest of the line smoothly and comfortably.

✅ Builds confidence
✅ Improves accuracy and rhythm
✅ Perfect for young horses
✅ Just 3 jumps and a few poles!

Someone else built the related distance? Walk it yourself anyway.

Decide how many strides you expect, then ride the line and compare your walk with how it actually rides on *your horse*. The more often you make that comparison, the better you’ll understand what your own walk tells you—and the clearer your plan will be before you turn to the first fence.

Do you always walk related distances yourself?
