Fireworks season is approaching. Help us spread the word of the dangers.

Most horse owners already understand the impact fireworks can have on horses, pets and livestock.

🎆 But many people planning a display may not realise that a few simple actions, such as giving advance warning to neighbours, choosing quieter fireworks or considering alternative celebrations, can make a real difference.

That's why we're asking our community to share this post and help raise awareness ahead of fireworks season.

If you're a horse owner, now is also a good time to start preparing:

🐴 Review turnout and management plans
📞 Speak with neighbours and local display organisers
🚧 Check fencing, gates and paddocks
👥 Make sure everyone caring for your horses knows the arrangements

🛑🐴 We need your help! Equestrians are being left out of Active Travel plans. 🐴 🛑

We need your help to change that. The Government is investing in new off-road schemes for walking, wheeling and cycling, but equestrians are too often overlooked. That means many equestrians are still forced onto busy roads despite the need for safer off-road access.

✅ Take action today ✅

1️. Discover what Active Travel plans are proposed for your area and find your local Councillor and MP. 🔍

2️.Use our ready-made templates and tools to champion equestrian inclusion and have your say. ✍️

3️. Share this post with fellow riders. Every letter counts, and together we can make a stronger case for change. 🤳

Together, we can secure safer, more inclusive routes for horse riders and carriage drivers across England. 🐎

🐴 Protecting Equestrian Access and Improving Safety for All 🐴

At British Horse Society, we understand how important it is to protect and preserve off-road hacking and carriage driving routes and promote safer roads for everyone who rides or drives horses.

Across the region, we have delivered several events, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from Police and Crime Commissioners' offices, local authority rights of way and highways teams, active travel groups, Forestry England, National Parks, and cycling organisations.

These events provide an invaluable opportunity to highlight the challenges riders and carriage drivers face when using public highways and rights of way. More importantly, they create a space for open discussion, collaboration, and shared understanding, helping us identify practical solutions that improve safety, accessibility, and enjoyment for everyone using our roads and countryside.

A particularly popular part of the events was giving colleagues and partners the opportunity to experience riding on a mechanical horse. This helped them gain a real insight into what it feels like to be in the saddle and better understand the challenges equestrians can face when sharing routes with other users.

By bringing different organisations together and encouraging constructive conversations, we can work collectively to create safer, more accessible routes for current and future generations of equestrians. 💙🏇

🐴✨ What an Evening at the Katie Magee & Nicola Wilson MBE Masterclass! ✨🐴

On Thursday, we held our sold-out Katie Magee and Nicola Wilson MBE Masterclass at Alnwick Ford Equestrian, welcoming over 230 spectators for an inspirational evening of training, learning and equestrian excellence.

Katie rode two talented young horses during the evening and, in the first session, was joined by local Morpeth Pony Club members Georgina and Maisie. This was particularly special, as Pony Club is where both Katie and Nicola first began their riding journeys, making it a fantastic opportunity to inspire the next generation of equestrians.

Throughout the evening, Nicola and Katie shared their wealth of knowledge and coaching expertise, helping riders and spectators alike gain a better understanding of the training process. We were also delighted to meet Katie's horse Treworra and see Nicola's Olympic silver medal up close.

A huge thank you to Katie, Nicola, Alnwick Ford Equestrian, our riders, everyone who attended and our amazing volunteers, without your help these events would not be possible.

Also, a big thank you to everyone who kindly donated raffle prizes, or purchased raffle tickets.

Thank you to Jamie Sproats for the photograph.

📸 We'd love to see your favourite photos from the evening - share them in the comments below! 👇🐴💙
