🐾 Rocky is hoping you all have fun in the sun this weekend but also wants to remind you that safety comes first! 🐾
⛱️ Make sure your furry friends have somewhere cool and shaded to spend their day.
💧 Ensure your companions have access to fresh water at all times.
🚶♀️ Walk your dogs early in the day or late in the evening when the temperature is cooler.
🖐 Do the tarmac test - place the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds and if it's too hot for you then it's too hot for their paws!
🏃♂️ The leading cause of heat stroke is exercise so avoid any particularly strenuous walks/exercise until the weather cools off.
🐕 Keep in mind that dogs that are; overweight, elderly, have underlying health issues or are a brachycephallic breed (eg Pugs and French Bulldogs) have a greater risk of heat stroke.
‼️ Common signs of heatstroke to look out for include: heavy panting, excessive drooling, vomiting, diarrhoea, drowsiness, loss of coordination, collapsing and in severe cases seizures.
📞If your pet shows any of these signs please call your vet immediately.
🚗 Remember never leave your dog in a warm car, even if just for a few minutes. If you see a dog in distress in a hot car then call 999 immediately.
