I am saying farewell to dog grooming.
I need to focus on my health, following an unexpected diagnosis. The twisting, bending and repetitive actions required to groom are exactly the movements I need to be avoiding right now, as I am at high risk of spinal fractures. As many of you will know, I broke my ankle in March. Many assumed this was whilst running, but it wasn’t. I was simply walking my dogs. I suspected something wasn’t right and requested a bone density scan, as osteoporosis is in older family members. I honestly didn’t really expect to get such a shock result though. I had thought there was maybe some bone deterioration, but was not expecting it to be as bad as it is.
That said, there is still the possibility I won’t suffer further fractures, but I’m determined to do everything possible to stay as healthy, mobile and strong as possible. That means reducing the risk and giving the meds a chance to take effect. This could be as long as 12 months, before I see an improvement.
As I come to terms with this change and what it means for me, I have decided to close my business and take a job where I can better control what movements I need to make, and can avoid the contortionist movements required for grooming.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last three years.
