Tough tough tough day today.
We sadly lost Daisy1 and Sable this morning, both were elderly, their bloods had came back good. Daisy1 was aged 8+ and Sable was at least 6. Daisy1 had been in our sanctuary for 6 and a half years and Sable had been with us over 3 years 💔💔

Sadly Colin was found to have leukemia from his blood test. The decline with leukemia is very rapid, 1-2 weeks maximum. So a decision was made for our Beautiful boy to not suffer further. Colin was a stunner he loved his ladies and had been with us for over 3 years. Colin was 4 years old 💙 💔

Hi everyone i found this guinea pig age, verses human age peice on the kavee website. With the loss of many of our senior piggies happening for us lately, I thought it may help put things more into perspective.

What is the lifespan of a guinea pig?
On average, guinea pigs live around 5 to 6 years. With some piggies being lucky enough to stretch their lifespan to 8 years, and one Guiness World Record guinea pigliving for a grand total of 14 years!

Over time, they go through childhood, puberty, adulthood, and retirement in the same way as humans, just a lot faster. For example, female guinea pigs can become sexually mature as early as 4 weeks old! That’s why keeping male and female piggies separate from a young age is so important, at least until the males have been neutered.

Similarly, guinea pigs reach old age at just 4 years old. This stage of their life will call for regular weight checks and better monitoring for potential health issues.
