Dried food isn’t always safer!

Dried food isn’t always safer!

Don’t let anyone convince you that dry kibble is safer to feed your pet over minimally processed pet food.

In the past 5 years, over 69 million pounds of pet food have been recalled. The leading cause was mold contamination (aflatoxins), accounting for 60 million pounds, all from ultra-processed kibble.

The second most common reason was bacterial contamination. 8 million pounds were recalled due to harmful bacteria like Salmonella and Listeria. Kibble made up 97.7% of these recalls.

Refrigerated cooked foods accounted for 1.4%

Raw pet food was even lower, at just 0.7%

When it comes to safety, the data is clear: minimally processed pet food isn’t the risk—ultra-processed kibble is.

Home made doggie electrolytes

A SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE HOMEMADE ELECTROLYTE SOLUTION

Maintaining hydration is vital whenever a pet loses body fluids excessively, for any reason, whether this be during hot weather, or following a bout of vomiting, diarrhoea or strenuous activity.

Continually replenishing fluids in such circumstances is especially important for young and older pets, who can quickly become dehydrated and ill. And this is where a homemade electrolyte solution can be invaluable.

RECIPE

- ½ litre of boiled water (cooled to room temperature)
- 2 teaspoons of maple syrup (provides natural sugars and energy, with a gentler glycemic index than honey)
- ⅓ teaspoon of low-sodium salt e.g. LoSalt (a mix of sodium and potassium, essential for hydration and electrolyte balance)
- ½ teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (for acidity and additional health benefits, including digestive support)
- ¼ teaspoon of baking soda (optional) for pH balance

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Boil ½ litre of water and let it cool to room temperature. This is important to kill any microorganisms present.

2. Stir in 2 teaspoons of maple syrup, which provides a natural source of sugar for quick energy and help the body absorb the electrolytes.

3. Mix in ⅓ teaspoon of low-sodium salt (such as LoSalt, for example). This will help restore sodium and potassium levels, which are essential for fluid balance.

4. Add ½ teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to provide the necessary acidity to mimic the natural electrolytes in body fluids.

5. Add ¼ teaspoon of baking soda (optional) . This can help neutralise any potential metabolic acidosis from dehydration and assist in pH balance.

6. Stir well to ensure all the ingredients are fully dissolved in the water.

7. Offer small amounts of the solution to your dog throughout the day.

This recipe creates a balanced and safe electrolyte solution that’s easy to prepare and supports hydration whenever the need arises.

NOTE:

Also be sure to keep your dog indoors, and somewhere cool between 06:00am and 21:00pm on hot days, to avoid risking heat stress or burned paws.

NOTE

If you pet suffers from any medical conditions, consult your vet first before using this or any other rehydration solution.

PEA - THE KIDNEY-FRIENDLY STIFFNESS SUPPLEMENT FOR PETS WITH RENAL DYSFUNCTION

NSAID's (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) are a no-no for stiff pets with renal disease because they risk causing further damage to already compromised kidney tissue.

Collagen supplements high in protein can place an excessive strain on struggling kidneys, unless carefully factored into a tailored diet designed to help maintain renal function without causing an increase in Urea, Creatinine and other waste products in the blood, and a worsening of signs associated with kidney failure.

PEA on the other hand, is highly effective at easing stiff joints and is 100% safe for kidney compromised dogs and cats, making it the perfect first choice for improving quality of life in these circumstances.

WE ALWAYS KNEW IT - VINCE THE VET JOINTS WAS 14 YEARS AHEAD OF THE GAME! 😀 (And still is!)

When Joints was formulated 14 years ago we knew from solid clinical experience in both clinical veterinary practice, and time spent specialising in orthopaedics, that hydrolysed bovine collagen had to be one of the ingredients in our unique veterinary formula blend. And since then, many thousands of pet parents have confirmed the often dramatic difference this has made to their dogs and cats lives.

It's immensely gratifying to see, that trials like the one below are now confirming what we knew all along!

We're not allowed by the powers that be to fully describe the benefits that Joints delivers to dogs and cats, but for anyone interested in learning more this study is a useful place to start.

And remember, Joints supplies much more than BCP alone. The addition of hyaluronic acid, bromelain and kelp takes the joint care Joints provides to a whole new level!

PS Ultimate Joint Support is light years ahead of any other joint comfort and care support available. 😉 ( https://www.vincethevet.co.uk/joint-health/ultimate-joint-support---large )
