🦸Standing still is a SUPERPOWER! 🦹

Horses will need regular hoof care throughout their whole life - teaching them the key skill of standing, relaxed is the best gift you can give them.

❗Can your horse reliably stand for their routine appointment? ❗
This foundational skill requires practice, practice and more PRACTICE!

🏆The benefits are absolutely worth it:
✅ Safer!
✅ Less stress for the horse, farrier and owner
✅ More efficient hoof care
✅ Earlier detection of discomfort and proactive management

🐴 Set the environment up for success:
✅ Shoeing area should be clean, dry, level, with good lighting and enough space to move
✅ Free from distractions. Avoid busy times like feeding and turn out times. Free range children, animals and friends with a pocket full of polos should be kept out of the way
✅ Manage the flies!
✅ Have a buddy horse nearby (temperament dependent)
✅ Get the horse moving before the appointment. Exercise to loosen off muscles and burn excess energy. Turn out if you can clean and dry legs in time
✅ Use appropriate restraint if necessary. Talk the options through with your farrier which could include holding the horse, cross ties, Horslyx to reward standing still or sedation

“SAFETY IS NO ACCIDENT”
⛔ 80% of farriers reported at least one injury requiring hospital treatment in their career
⛔ 46% felt injury was avoidable if the horse had better handling
⛔ 30% felt injury was avoidable if the environment was better managed

ISSUES WITH THE NEW NUMBER

Hi we’re asking all clients to save the new business phone number (07950 550980) and to message with your full name and yard name. The business WhatsApp app has locked us out as messaging clients numbers without being saved first is registering as “spam” 🙄🙈

We’re trying to get this sorted for the future but if people could message us and save the number that will help!! 😅

Thanks!!

UPDATE TO BUSINESS OPERATION as of 1st of July

Jim Bendon Farriery is really excited to announce a new addition! With the expansion of business and additions of more and more clients we are very excited to announce an (official) addition to the Jim Bendon Farrier team; Sophie will be joining us and taking over all things admin as of the 1st of July!!

This is a big change for us and for our clients but our hopes are that this will improve our clients experience making communication between us and our clients better as well as making the business generally more efficient. The biggest thing being that Jim will be better able to do what he does best and that’s shoe and care for your horses!!

I’m sure you all will have many questions about how this will impact on you and your horses so please feel free to message/call with your concerns. However I’m sure you can all appreciate that this is very much a work in progress at this point and there will be teething pains to be worked through. We ask for patience at this time as we work hard to smooth out the wrinkles and figure out the best way forward for all involved.

While these changes might not be well received by some we are very much anticipating that this will improve services to clients and most importantly your horses.

More information will of course be sent out in due course to all our clients and on social media so keep an eye out!!

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

“It just fell off!” Or did it?
‘Lost’ shoes are not wanted by any of us. Locating the lost shoe can provide an indication of how the shoe may have parted company from the foot.
Was your horse tired? Was the ground deep or slippy? When was the horse last shod? What type of fencing do you have in turn out areas? Does your horse play with others in a field?
