One of the biggest mistakes people make in dog training is making things too difficult, too quickly. 🐾
If your dog is struggling, getting distracted, frustrated, or “ignoring” you, it is generally not because they are stubborn or naughty, it is usually because the training we are asking them to do is too hard for them right now!
Training is all about setting our dogs up to succeed.
Think of it like this; If your dog can sit perfectly in your living room, that doesn’t automatically mean they can do it in the park surrounded by dogs, squirrels, smells, and people. That’s a completely different difficulty level!
The key is to gradually increase the difficulty level. 🟠 Start easy
🟠 Build confidence
🟠 Add distractions slowly
🟠 Keep sessions achievable
When we work at the right level for our dogs, training becomes;
✅️ More fun
✅️ Less frustrating
✅️ Faster progress
✅️ Better engagement
✅️ Stronger trust between you and your dog
Sometimes the best thing you can do in training is make it easier, not harder. 🙂
Remember: struggling doesn’t mean failing. It just means we need to adjust the difficulty level and help our dogs succeed. 😊
One of the biggest mistakes people make in dog training is making things too difficult too quickly thinking this will get us to out final destination quicker, when infact this can actually slow down progression.
