โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ Summer Heat Safety for Pets ๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ

As temperatures rise this June, itโ€™s important to help keep your pets safe and comfortable in the heat.
โ˜€๏ธPets can overheat much faster than people, especially during walks, car journeys, and outdoor play.

๐Ÿฆ๐ŸญHere are a few simple ways to protect them this summer:

๐ŸงŠ Fresh water always available
๐ŸŒ… Walkies early morning or later evening
๐Ÿ”ฅ Pavements too hot for bare feet = too hot for paws
๐Ÿฆ Frozen treats and cooling mats make great summer enrichment
๐ŸŒณ ๐Ÿน๐ŸฐShade is your petโ€™s best friend especially for rabbits and guinea pigs
๐Ÿšซ Never leave pets in cars โ€” not even โ€œjust for 5 minutesโ€

Some pets are more at risk ๐Ÿšจ
๐Ÿพ Flat-faced breeds (pugs,bulldogs,Persian cats)
๐Ÿพ Older pets
๐Ÿพ Overweight animals,
๐Ÿพ Pets with existing health conditions.

Keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke:
โš ๏ธ Heavy panting
โš ๏ธ Drooling
โš ๏ธ Weakness or wobbliness
โš ๏ธ Vomiting
โš ๏ธ Collapse

โ˜Ž๏ธ If youโ€™re concerned your pet may be overheating, contact your vet immediately.

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine safely! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿน

๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿพ More Cases of Gastroenteritis in Dogs

Weโ€™re currently seeing an increase in dogs with gastroenteritis, causing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, reduced appetite, and lethargy.

This can be more common after periods of heavy rainfall following a long dry spell, as bacteria, parasites, and other contaminants can be washed into puddles and standing water that dogs may drink from or play in.

To help reduce the risk:
๐Ÿ’ง Avoid letting your dog drink from puddles or stagnant water
๐Ÿพ Wash muddy paws and dirty coats after walks
๐Ÿšถ Take fresh water with you on walks

If your dog develops vomiting, diarrhoea, or seems unwell, please contact the team at Culverden Vets for advice.

๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸToday is World Bee day! ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒฟ
Bees play a vital role in keeping our planet- and our pets! -healthy by supporting the plants that provide food and natural habitats ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ

๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒฟYouโ€™ll often find bees nesting in places like garden borders, hedgerows, compost heaps, hollow trees, or even small gaps in walls and sheds. ๐Ÿชด

๐Ÿ๐ŸŒท Most bees are unlikely to sting unless disturbed, but curious pets may still get stung if they investigate too closely!

๐Ÿ If your pet is stung, keep an eye out for these common signs -

๐Ÿ Sudden yelping or reacting as if in pain
๐Ÿ Swelling (especially around the face, lips, or paws)
๐Ÿ Licking, chewing, or pawing at one area
๐Ÿ Limping
๐Ÿ Drooling or mild discomfort

๐Ÿšจ Seek urgent veterinary advice if you notice:
๐Ÿ’ŠSevere swelling (especially around the face or throat)
๐Ÿ’ŠDifficulty breathing
๐Ÿ’ŠVomiting or collapse

๐Ÿ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒท Letโ€™s protect our pollinators while keeping our furry friends safe!
