Hi, Hope everyone is staying safe and well. Hope this gives you a little help for your dog grooming at home .
On the video that I will post below are a few tips on grooming your dog.
I would suggest grooming your dog on a stable table and have someone assist you ie feed your dog whilst you do this, loads of treats.
I will also upload the video as well.
1) Always check the dogs skin when brushing or raking
2) When brushing your dog - use a medium/fine comb, detangler spray and a slicker brush,I ideally like the Simpsons online brushes but if you can't get one, can get a medium brush with wire pins from any pet store.
3) If your dog does have some tangles or knots in the coat visible , I would place the comb behind the knot and then using thinning scissors just gently snip and then use your comb to get out the rest of the knot , leaving some coat where you had to trim.
Always be aware of how close the tangles are to the skin before trimming out.
4) If you do bath your dog , make sure you rinse out the shampoo well and when drying if a curly coated dog , drag the towel down the coat, ringing it out don't rub, this can create more tangles within the coat. If short haired dog can run as much as possible.
5) Ear cleaning - cotton wool and warm water as shown on the video above
6)nail trimming always make sure if black toe nails are present just for safety take ends of the nail off just so the nails are just off the ground, white ones you can see the pink area (quick) and white nail part, just again take off the white tip with nail trimmers or nail file.
7) If you have a short haired dog and you want to get some of that dead hair off you can use a mitt or a furminator
I believe with good methodical grooming routine you should be able to keep on top of the coat using the tips above without using clipping shears till I get back. Good luck
I miss all your dogs and look forward to the woofs when I return, please take care.
