Just our Tinks having a go at some poles🧚‍♀️

One of the things we really enjoy doing at SB is introducing our horses to new things and seeing what they make of them.

Tinks has taken the poles in her stride and is proving to be a lovely, willing mare. It's all part of giving our horses the chance to experience different things outside of racing and finding out what they enjoy.

When we heard that lovely Tara had developed kissing spine, we sent her a little get-well present to help keep her entertained while she recovers❤️‍🩹

Tara was rehomed from SB by the lovely Abbie almost a year ago.

A kissing spine diagnosis isn’t the end of the road. Many horses go on to have successful operations and return to doing the things they love. Sometimes, it’s the beginning of the road back to normal!

A little look at Simba & Bob/Builder in the school🐴

Both boys came to us straight from their trainers' yards after finishing their racing careers. We've spent time getting to know them, introducing them to life outside racing and seeing what they enjoy.

They're both proving to be lovely horses with plenty to offer, and they're now ready to start meeting potential new owners💗

“Can ____ hack alone?”🐴

It's something we're asked about quite often, and we completely understand why.

We try our very best to expose our horses to as many different aspects of riding as we can while they're with us. That includes hacking alone, hacking in company, road work and introducing them to different environments and situations.

Every horse is different, of course, and we always assess them as individuals, but we think it's important to give them the opportunity to experience as much as possible.

Attention please! We need to talk about FEED🥕

Sharon has had a few phone calls recently from people who have said their horse has changed personality months and months after coming home - and one of the first things Sharon asks is, “What are you feeding?”

It’s something that can be so easily overlooked. Sugars, additives, hidden ingredients and feeds containing alfalfa can make a huge difference to some horses.

At SB, we keep things fairly simple and feed:

🐴 Dengie Hi-Fi Lite Chaff
🐴 Baileys Fibre Plus Nuggets
🐴 SPILLERS High Fibre Cubes
🐴 Keyflow Pink Mash
🐴 Protexin Equine Premium Gut Balancer

Of course, every horse is different, but if your lovely, chilled ex-racehorse suddenly seems like a completely different horse, don’t forget to look in the feed bucket! 👀

From racehorse to riding horse at SB🏇💗

Over the years, we've worked hard to build strong relationships with trainers who trust us with their horses when their racing careers come to an end. It's something we're really proud of and gives SB a unique position within the world of thoroughbred rehoming.

At the moment, we have several horses who have come directly from their trainers' yards:

✨ Tinkerbell (Sands End) - 3yo mare, approx. 15.1hh
✨ Bob/Builder (Three Builders) - 3yo gelding, approx. 15.3hh
✨ Simba (Simbas Gift) - 4yo gelding, approx. 15.3hh
✨ Martin (Marinakis) - 6yo gelding

For some of these horses, SB is their first experience of life outside racing. They haven't had a private home or years of different experiences behind them, so we get the opportunity to take our time, get to know them as individuals and discover what they enjoy away from the racecourse.

We've now started to get to know each of these horses and explore what they're capable of outside racing, and they're all ready to start meeting potential new owners. They have been enjoying their hacking and their schooling, and we're continuing to find out what each individual likes to do💗
