The timing of everything is perfect ✨

This is something I say almost daily, to myself, to friends and family, and to students.
You might not see it right away, but when you look back you’ll realize why all the highs and lows have happened, to lead you to where you are today 🥳

So what if the perfect time IS now? ❤️

In reality there NEVER is a perfect time! So if you keep telling yourself now isn’t quite ‘right’ then it never will be.

Say YES and dive right into whatever opportunities are presented your way, you’ll never know where they might take you 😉

Trust the Process ✨

Photos are almost exactly a year apart, almost exactly the same moment, taken at the same angle 👀

It’s clear for me to see the difference, but I drew a few lines to show you all what I’m looking for too!

Firstly I am super impressed by the degree in the posterior pelvis tilt and how much more weight is loaded on the haunches.
This has allowed Boogie to reach with his inside hind leg, to come under his centre of gravity and the rider 💪🏻

His poll remains at the highest point and he is technically still ‘on the vertical’, but you can see how much more engagement in his back, and lift of his thoracic sling has allowed him to really lighten his shoulders 🥳

You could even argue that my riding is more of a hindrance than help in the second photo too as my legs are drawn up, shoulders tipped forwards, my pelvis is closed and tight (because I was nervous doing our first ever dressage competition!) 😬
So that is real testament to his balance and understanding 🥳

So what have we done in this year? 🤔

Mostly groundwork, in-hand, liberty, and lots of hacking up some big ol hills!
Hardly any actual ‘schooling’ 😅
And yet you can see for yourself what an improvement between the two pictures. In fact he hadn’t done any schooling 6 weeks leading up to the completion!
Canter is also his hardest gait and I’m so happy with the balance and self carriage that’s developing 🔥

This has been trained completely without a bit or bridle in sight….my own personal challenge to see if you could build collection and self carriage without the support of reins!
And the answer is YES but of course it takes more time, but arguably the time the horse TRULY needs to build their own strength and not be forced into a frame beyond what they can actually do 🫠

It all starts with a moment, then a second, then a stride, and suddenly you’re doing a 6 minute test maintaining self carriage 😂🥳🔥

🌟 1st Bridleless Dressage Competition 🌟

I am unbelievably proud of Boogie 🥹

His first ever competition and we haven’t done any schooling for 6 weeks (due to the arena build!) and in true Mia form, I had learnt the wrong tests 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ we only did intro and prelim but I am thrilled with how calm, confident, and connected he was for his first time 🥹

Some lovely comments from the judge, including ‘leaving nothing to hide but showcased both horse and rider well’, ‘beautiful harmony’, ‘harmonious partnership’, and we even got a little round of applause after each test too 😂🙏

To my surprise we actually placed 1st and 2nd (the classes were combined) and I would’ve scored 70% if I hadn’t gone wrong 😅
This has all been trained completely without a bit or bridle, and his level of self carriage is developing beautifully 💪🏻

A huge thank you to Rebecca from Equi-Fun for allowing me to compete bridleless 🙏 I’m really hoping with the few of us in the country that are getting out there competing that we can start to cause a little change 🥳

In fact Jo filmed Boogies first ever ride, which was bridleless and ba****ck on the beach 🥰 so she’s really been there every step of the way with this amazing horse.

Boogie is bred by and I just knew he was going to be special from the day I saw him as a foal 🥹

Spirit giving an epic rear in the waves a few years ago in an ad for Tom’s Trunks 💪🏻🔥❤️

….in our favorite place to be together, the beach! 🏝️

The team had a crazy idea of towing a surfer behind us (wearing their iconic trunks of course!) and although we’d never done that, I knew Spirit was confident dragging things, and loved galloping through water….so it was just putting the two together 🌊

The result was an awesome ad that captured the amazing fun of the day, and how versatile their gorgeous sustainable clothing is 😍
