Ep6. We Bought a Future Winner!

All the sounds from the Spring HIT Sales where the Team had a select shopping list and came home with the right horse at the right price.

We catch up with some of the people making it happen and see how Weafers Cross (IRE) is settling in back at Glebe Barn Stables.

He's a handsome gelding out of Order of St.George and similar profile to our recent winner Sky Grove.

🏇 Fusion Racing Club Update 🏇

It’s been encouraging to see Jazz Talking continue to progress this year since tackling obstacles last season, particularly after a promising 3rd on her hurdling debut at Fakenham.

She looks the type to continue improving with experience and is an exciting mare running in the colours of our friends in the Fusion Racing Club.

For just £85 per month, members of the Club get the opportunity to enjoy the experience of National Hunt racing alongside the team here, with regular updates from the yard, stable visits, race day involvement, and owner access throughout the season.

"Keep yourself in the best company and your horses in the worst", not a bad mission when you're scouring the BHA Admin Site for suitable races to enter your horses in.

In the real world, bespoke races aren't created for superstar horses, being a small yard we know that keeping options open and recognising when you can be competitive is vital for our reputation and attracting new owners.

Today we talk deadlines, entries and declarations that give us the best chance of a good run.

We look back on Sky Grove’s encouraging run at Hereford, where there was plenty to take from the performance, and we head to Stratford with Laura and the team ahead of Kampari’s latest outing following his Warwick success. We also hear from Kampari’s owner about the thrill of racehorse ownership and what it means to be part of the journey.

One of the big talking points this week is the importance of top jockeys, not just in the saddle on race day, but in the feedback they provide afterwards, especially with young and inexperienced horses. A good jockey can tell you how a horse felt, how they handled conditions, whether they’ll improve for experience, and what might suit them next time. That insight can be invaluable when planning a horse’s future.

Plus, we look ahead to Ffos Las Racecourse with Lancier Des Obeaux, who goes hurdling on Tuesday.

This will be a weekly podcast following the day-to-day life of the yard. From first lot on the gallops to planning future runners, each episode will give an insight into what goes into training and managing racehorses. We’ll introduce you to the horses as individuals, each with their own personality, strengths, and challenges and chart their journeys throughout the summer.

Alongside the horses, we’ll also be sharing more about the people behind the scenes. The running of a yard relies on a dedicated team, and this podcast will shine a light on the work that often goes unseen, from stable staff and work riders to the wider network that supports the horses’ wellbeing and performance.

A key aim of the podcast is to provide a clear and honest perspective on racing. That means not just celebrating the good days, but also talking openly about the realities of the sport. There are always ups and downs, and we feel it’s important to reflect both. We’ll also be exploring areas that can sometimes feel unclear from the outside, including how race planning works, how decisions are made, and what is involved in owning and running a racehorse PLUS the costs.

In our introductory first episode we look at the thought process behind an entry for Sky Grove at Hereford this week.
