It’s only been a month or so since our hedgehogs began emerging for their spring activities… and the last thing they need is being unnecessarily held up… literally. 💔

This poor European Hedgehog is the latest victim of something we - and many other wildlife rescue centres - are seeing far too much of this year… football netting.

Entangled and unable to free himself, this hedgehog was left vulnerable to exhaustion, dehydration and injury, before finally being found and brought into our care. He is now being monitored for any development of constriction injuries, which can take up to 10 days. That's 10 days of him missing out on potential breeding opportunities, and as we all know, hedgehogs need all the opportunities they can get😣.

Please, if you use football nets in your garden:
⚠️ Lift them off the ground when not in use
⚠️ Check them daily
⚠️ Never leave loose netting unattended overnight

Something as simple as raising a net can save a life🦔.
