Up, Pup & Play

Up, Pup & Play Up, Pup and Play is a strictly ethical, professional dog walking service. Imdt certified and canine first aid trained. I missed my daily dose of dogs immensely.

We offer tailored and enriched dog walks and apply force and fear free approach in handling and caring for all furry babies. I have a diverse work experience, mostly in telecommunications and sales. Travelled and lived in many different parts of the world for my job. Then I settled with my family in Egypt for 14 years and had my own ventures mainly in crafts, tribal jewellery and supplied medicina

l herbs and oils. I was also caring for stray dogs in my neighbourhood. I volunteered in the local Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) to help control the population of stray dogs and vaccinate them aiming to create safer environment for both humans and dogs. A little over a year ago, I moved to the UK with my family. One fine morning I found a dog walker job opening with a local dog walker, and I immediately applied and got accepted. I worked for 5 months during which, I learned a lot, gained experiences and my knowledge about dogs expanded. I decided to pursue my own career as a dog walker. I am a certified professional dog walker and I am ready to take care of your pups and make them happy. My lifelong love for animals, especially dogs and now a dream come true.

"Don't tell me he just needs more sleep."

Rest doesn't seem to help.
Walks don't seem to help.
Enrichment doesn't seem to help.

I hear you. I really do.
And I hear how exhausting that can be.

Here's something worth considering.

Not everything that calms one dog's nervous system will help another's.

That lick mat? It may reduce arousal in one dog and increase it in another.
That trip to the dog park?
Some dogs recover quickly. Others may carry those effects for days.

That constant access to another dog? Some thrive on it. Others never get enough time to regulate between interactions.
They will crave it more.

Dysregulation isn't usually solved by finding one magic activity.
I wish it was that easy.

It’s nuanced.
It’s individual.
It needs tweaked. Often.

What was the biggest “aha” you had when you realised something that was supposed to help actually made things worse? behaviour

Big News: Introducing Dedicated Enrichment Sessions!

We’re expanding our care options with specialized Enrichment Sessions designed for dogs who thrive on mental stimulation rather than physical exertion.

This is perfect for:
• Senior dogs
• Anxious dogs who need a break from the pressures of walking
• Dogs with physical limitations

Each session features engaging problem-solving activities and scent work, ensuring your dog gets maximum mental benefit in a calm, supportive setting.

Extreme Weather Protocol: Your dog’s comfort is our priority. During extreme weather conditions (such as heatwaves or severe storms), some dog walks,, depending on individual dog tolerance and time of walk, will automatically convert to Enrichment Sessions.
We’ll switch gears to indoor/outdoor mental games so your pup stays safe, cool, and entertained without the stress of harsh elements.

Ready to try it out? DM me to book a session or discuss how this might fit your dog’s needs!

🌼 TOXIC SUMMER PLANTS FOR DOGS 🌼
One of the top summer dangers for dogs is plants. There are many common garden and landscaping plants that are hazardous to your dog. Whether garden plants, plants in the wild, or seasonal plants you bring home from the florist, plants can provide crazy smells and a taste of something new, which can be at odds with your pup’s health.
Identifying potential signs of poisoning can save your dog’s life. Look out for these symptoms:
• Gastrointestinal issues: Vomiting, diarrhoea, drooling, increased thirst, or loss of appetite
• Behavioural changes: Restlessness, confusion, lethargy, or depression
• Physical symptoms: Tremors, seizures, difficulty breathing, panting, increased heart rate, and pale gums
If you think your dog may have ingested something toxic, call your vet immediately! Never watch and wait!

HOT WEATHER & AN INCREASE IN BITE RISK 🥵

We've had some very hot weather recently in the UK, and for many parts of the UK- the next three days are going to be scorchio!

It's important to be aware that being too hot can lower thresholds for tolerance and overt reactions- and not just in 'reactive' dogs.

And not just in dogs!

There's a correlation between human riots and an increase in crime during a significant rise in temperature (27 to 32 degrees).
It is well established that in people, heat stress causes irritability and an increased likelihood of aggressive behaviour.

Being hot and bothered is a physical stressor - the body works hard to return to homeostasis.

Cognitive processes can be negatively affected. So if your dog is not responding to as they would normally, consider the effects of heat.

Furthermore- being too hot can interfere with a dog's ability to rest and sleep. During rest and sleep, stress is lowered, and subsequently compromised rest and sleep affects behaviour.

This can affect (lower) the dog's threshold for emotional stress.

🐕 Two unfamiliar dogs meeting while both are hot and bothered is less likely going to result in a healthy interaction. Now is the time to largely keep yourselves to yourselves on walks, or monitor the body language of both dogs very carefully.

🏡 Extra caution should be taken in situations that your dog may struggle with, such as around visitors to the home.

🧒 But the greatest caution of all should be taken around up-close interactions in ALL dogs, especially those who live children.

Remember these basic safeguarding rules;

1. No faces near faces.

2. Let sleeping dogs lie.

3. Do not forcefully take resources (toys, food or anything the dog has found/picked up) off a dog.
Children should never take things off a dog.

4. Do not 'box dogs in' with your interaction.

- Always ensure they can easily move away by not blocking a dog's ability to move forward/away (for example, wrapping your arms around to hug a dog front on makes it near impossible for them to easily disengage).

- The safest way to interact is to invite a dog to come to you.
Alternatively, if you do approach then do so when they are awake and instead of swooping straight in with strokes- wait for them to signal to you they are keen for an interaction.

- Stop stroking after 2-3 seconds, and see if your dog communicates to you they would like more, or if they are done.
This is called the consent test, and it's something all children (and adults) should be aware of.

Most people who get bitten by a dog know the dog well, didn't think their dog would ever bite someone and didn't see the bite coming.

Most dog bites are on faces and hands of someone close to the dog, and this tells us a lot about what the person was LIKELY doing (Note, there are always exceptions).

As I always say to my clients ......

🗣️ Never take your dog's current level of tolerance for granted.
