🌾🐶 PSA for Dog Owners: Beware of Grass Seeds This Summer! 🌾🐾

As the warm months roll in, so do the dangers of grass seeds—those tiny, dart-shaped menaces that can cause big problems for our furry friends! 😰

⚠️ Why Are Grass Seeds Dangerous?
Grass seeds (also known as foxtails or awns) can get trapped in your dog’s fur and easily pierce the skin, ears, eyes, nose, or paws. Once inside the body, they can travel internally, causing serious infections, abscesses, or worse.

🛡️ Prevention Tips:
✅ Keep your dog out of tall, dry grass—especially in late spring and summer.
✅ Regularly trim long hair, especially around paws, ears, and belly.
✅ Brush your dog after every walk to catch any hitchhikers early!

🔍 How to Check Your Dog:
Make a habit of inspecting your pup daily, especially after walks:
👀 Eyes – Look for redness, squinting, or discharge.
👂 Ears – Check for head shaking, scratching, or whining.
🐾 Paws – Spread the toes and look for swelling or limping.
🐶 Fur & Skin – Feel for lumps or sore spots. Part the fur and inspect closely.

🚨 What If You Find a Grass Seed Embedded?
If the seed is only attached to the fur, gently remove it.
If it’s pierced the skin or is inside an ear, nose, or eye DO NOT try to remove it yourself—take your dog to the vet immediately. Grass seeds can migrate fast and cause internal damage.

🩺 Early vet treatment can prevent serious complications and reduce recovery time.
