Cruciate disease refers to partial or complete rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament.

The primary symptom of cruciate rupture is limping on the affected hind leg. In most patients, this limp appears suddenly, and is such that the leg is not used at all

As cruciate disease is usually a degenerative process, sometimes the ligament
becomes gradually weaker, which may be seen as an intermittent limp or stiffness.

Tizer 🐾

Tizer recently underwent a splenectomy (spleen removal surgery) here at West Mount Vets.

Tizer came into the practice as he was pale, lethargic, had vomited and some loose stool, after some tests we discovered his spleen was irregular and needed to be removed to protect his health.

Thanks to our skilled surgical team and lots of TLC, Tizer’s procedure went smoothly, and he’s now recovering like a champ! 💪🐶

The spleen plays a role in filtering blood and fighting infection, but dogs can live happy, healthy lives without it.

We’re so proud of Tizer and grateful to his family for trusting us with his care. 💙

If your pet ever seems off or unwell, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Early detection can make all the difference.

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day is observed annually on August 28th.

It's a heartfelt day dedicated to honouring and remembering beloved pets who have passed away. For the pet owners among us, it offers a special moment to reflect on the unconditional love, joy and companionship our furry friends brought into our lives.

While the day may stir feelings of sadness, its true purpose is to celebrate the lives of these cherished animals: reminiscing the happy memories, silly habits and unique bonds that made them a part of the family.

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day encourages us to keep their spirit alive in our hearts forever. 🌈❤

Why do cats love cardboard boxes?
Because they’re cosy, enclosed and just the right size to feel safe and warm - the perfect feline hideaway. They’re also a great place to pounce, play and scratch.

So why do we keep buying expensive fancy toys and beds, expecting a different reaction...? 😹

Remember, if your cat is ever a little less playful than usual, or hiding more, these small changes can say a lot about their health.

Contact us if something’s amiss so we
can help keep them happy and healthy.

** HUDDERSFEILD BRANCH IMPORTANT PARKING NOTICE**

Network Rail will be carrying out work in the car park from the 25th August - 5th October, because of this there will be a reduction in parking spaces at our Huddersfield Branch.

There are other car parks available in the area but we appreciate these are further away from the practice and involve a busy road.

If you have a smaller animal in a carrier or you feel you may struggle to safety get to the practice with your pet, you are welcome to first drop them off at the practice with reception before finding a parking space 🐾

We appreciate your patience at this time and aim to keep you in the loop with any updates.

*STAFF PETS*

This is 2 year old Orca... Orca had an injury to her hind leg at 1 day old and sadly had to have this amputated. She was hand-reared from then on by our Registered Veterinary Nurse Sarah and has absolutely thrived, becoming yet another foster fail.
She does very well on 3 legs and enjoys long walks and ball chasing the most. She looks deceptively big on pictures but is actually only 15kg and is a staffy/English Bull Terrier cross.

Happy receptionist day!
This is our lovely receptionist Gina. Not only is she very caring and compassionate but she arguably has one of the hardest job roles within a vet practice.

Our vet reception staff work tirelessly answering the phones and trying to help with each and every query from staff and clients and always with big smiles on their faces!

Enjoy your day Gina and thanks for being a brilliant and very valued member of our team here at Tod 🥰
