Tiptree Pet Food Bank

Tiptree Pet Food Bank Tiptree Pet Food Bank has been set up to reduce the number of pets being handed to rescues because of the cost of their care.

We cover large parts of Essex & have links with other foodbanks if we are unable to help

Sorry for radio silence, I started a new job last week & this week I have been really poorly. Currently on antibiotics & antivirals to try & tussle my immune system back in line. Please feel free to drop me a text if anyone needs anything

Normally I would apologise for the language but not today. Today I am PI**ED.

I have seen several cries for help recently with pet food, and I have also seen some people with sticks so far up their arses they can't help being judgemental & rude 😀

A few facts for you;

* the majority of people who need my help are WORKING families. With TWO working adults in the household

* the number of people using foodbanks in the UK is at an all time high, and the majority of them are WORKING families!!

* rescue groups are crumbling around us with demand. People handing dogs over or in some cases simply abandoning them because they cannot afford to care for them properly

* it is incredibly difficult to rehome an animal that has no vices & is deemed the 'perfect' pet - this means that pets with issues such as separation anxiety, reactivity or other issues are less likely to find new homes

* anybody that works in animal rescue would prefer an animal to be left alone for 8 hours a day at home where they know the routine, than to be in rescue kennels for 23 hours a day on their own surrounded by chaos

* a happy, contented, adult dog will sleep on average for 12-14 hours a day - if a dog's needs are met fully, they will rest for the majority of the day. Puppies & older dogs require even more sleep!

Please, if you see someone calling for help with their pets, tag me. Don't be like the people I am constantly seeing who make judgemental comments about the owner not working hard enough...not having their priorities straight...not caring about their pet. I have 50+ pets (a large number are inverts) that take priority along with my children; pay day consists of food shopping, clothing shopping if needed, then pet food restock. Sometimes my animals have to have less 'good' stuff & have to make do. Is it ideal? Nope. Does it work? Yep. Does it make me a bad owner? I mean, if anyone wants to rehome a neurotic staff, a hyper shih tzu, a sassy pony & a d***y horse....alongside a snake, chameleon, tortoise, hamster, gecko, scorpion & spiders...thinking they can do better...come on over.

Don't be a judgemental prick. Don't assume you know the situation. Don't call someone a bad owner because they need help. If you don't want to help, that's fine. Just don't make people feel any worse than I promise they already do πŸ’”

🌞 Good morning 🌞
I must apologise for absence, we have had a few medical issues in the family that have turned our lives upside down. Should anybody ever need me urgently, please drop me a text/watsapp at 07711907208. I always have my phone on me & can access it easier than the page/messenger - messenger is temperamental at best anyway!!

Some of the cat & kitten food previously collected has been sent to Maria & her team of volunteers to help with this year's 'kitten season'.

Maria & her team work tirelessly & with zero funding to help reduce the stray cat population. Our yard cats, Jack & Sally, are just two of a long line of kittens born to stray & feral cats. Currently they have these gorgeous babies in, as well as two pregnant mums ready to drop any day.

If anybody is looking for a new feline addition to their family, the kittens available will be raised in family homes, so perfectly suited to domestic households.

We don't support kittens or puppies as a rule, but I will always make an exception for groups that help animals in need ❀️

Good morning 🌞 lovely day today, hope it's a good one for you all!
We are running very low on cat & dog food. Both wet & dry of each. If anybody feels able to donate any it would be hugely appreciated ❀️ I will be doing a 'brand card' later to raise funds; there will be a list of 20 pet food brands & the winning brand will be chosen from an online generator.

20 brands, Β£3 each = Β£30 to the winner, Β£30 to the food bank πŸ₯° we are behind with our unit rent, I will be covering that from my own pocket but desperately need some fundraising ideas πŸ™

Have a fabulous Thursday ✨️

I need to start thinking about ways to fundraise the hnit rent. It isn't something I can personally cover every month but it would be a shame to lose such an amazing space! If anybody has any ideas please drop them below ⬇️

🌞 good morning everyone 🌞

Going forward there are a few changes happening that will impact the running of the food bank ever so slightly.

I am moving my horses from the yard where the storage unit is. Whilst the unit is staying put, this does mean that items can no longer be left at the yard without me arranging to be there. Unless we have organised to meet at the unit, please do not leave any donations at the yard going forward.

Donations can be dropped at my home address with agreement - i have to be mindful of the rules of my housing & also of my neighbours.

Unfortunately I still cannot access my messenger for the page πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ if anybody needs to reach me, please drop me a message to my personal account Jamie L Cross

Have a fab Thursday πŸ₯°

YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING!!

This is how rammed the trailer was when Ellie & David left the yard this afternoon. We actually had to call it quits because David was worried about overloading the trailer 🀣

Thank you all so, so much. Although not local, Abbey Boarding Kennels has taken many of our local dogs including Bailey, the gorgeous old staff that was found with his deceased owner πŸ’” without Ellie & David offering him a kennel, he wouldn't have found his loving foster home where he was pampered until he passed.

This food will help support their 11 sanctuary dogs who are all rescued from various situations. Ellie & David also offer out food to locals who might be struggling as well as helping other rescues.

This is what rescue is. Not worrying about location, not worrying about who is doing what; coming together to ensure the dogs are fed, loved & taken care of.

Thank you to everyone who donates to the food bank πŸ₯°

If I'm due to collect from you today please accept my apologies. I have a flat tyre & am also dealing with a messenger inbox that isn't playing so can't message πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Afternoon everyone πŸ₯°

Things with the dogs rescued from a hoarding situation have changed somewhat. My friend Ellie had several of them at her kennels, but has today been notified that the dogs will be moving from her kennels to other, cheaper kennels.

There will be lots of thoughts surrounding this & i too have my own views on this situation. However. The biggest issue is the donations given for these dogs.

Ellie has offered several times for the items to be shared between all of the kennels housing the dogs, to be told that they do not need anything & Ellie should use it at her kennels. I have seen proof of this. With the dogs moving, my view is that Ellie can instead use the food etc for the sanctuary dogs that she has in her care.

Sanctuary dogs are dogs that are unable to thrive in normal household environments. This could be for a whole host of reasons including trauma & breed tendencies. Currently Ellie has 11 sanctuary dogs, with 4 being sponsored a nominal amount of Β£10 per day. Sadly this does not even cover the cost of her staff. I've met almost all of the 11 & they are thriving in Ellie's care, with no cost spared for their upkeep. The dogs go out on day trips, some are taken on holiday even!! Several are registered & exempt XL Bullies that are legally allowed to live at the kennels.

My view now is that if the rescue involved in removing these dogs originally no longer wants help with them, then Ellie's Sanctuary dogs can benefit instead. Absolutely nothing will go to waste & everything will help enrich their lives further.

Should anybody have an issue or concern with this, please do drop me a message. There is no right or wrong here, but ultimately rescue dogs are benefiting from your absolutely mind blowing generosity πŸ₯°

Below are some photos from the house where 16 live dogs were removed over the weekend. Sadly a couple of deceased dogs were also found in the property πŸ˜”

The dogs that have been removed are all in safe places & thanks to donation, they will be well fed. I have today also received a box of Pedigree chews & some droncit & front line πŸ₯°

If anybody has any bedding laying around, this would also be hugely appreciated. The dogs have been split between two or three kennel sites so extra bedding is a huge bonus. Items I can accept are;
* fleece blankets
* vet bedding
* towels - no hand towels please
* duvet covers
* bed sheets

Items can be left at the flats - Simons Flats, bottom of the stairs - or at the unit by appointment.

Thank you all so, so much for your support with this

A friend of mine has just assisted in an horrific situation, a large number of animals have been rescued & now need a LOT of TLC.

Im reaching out to see if anybody feels able to donate towards food for them - primarily kibble but chubb rolls are also super helpful as they help build weight.

Im being really sparse with details currently as there may be underlying legal issues for the rescues to contend with. But I hope that everyone knows I wouldn't reach out if it wasn't urgent.

I can create an Amazon wishlist if people prefer, so that items go directly to the rescues involved. Once I am able to divulge more details I will πŸ₯°

31/12/2024

I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year 😊 hope 2025 is a good one. Thank you for all the help & support in 2024

β™‘ Using the food bank β™‘
Tiptree Pet Food Bank operates slightly differently to some that are in existence; I don't set time frames on the help offered. People's circumstances change for a plethora of reasons & usually these circumstances aren't going to improve within two or three weeks. This means that if I only offered help once a month for two weeks, or set a limit to the number of visits allowed, pets would go hungry. So I don't.

However there are a few guidelines;

β™‘ unless your pet has an allergy, I am unable to be specific with what food is offered. Where possible I do try & be consistent with brands, to avoid any potential tummy upsets, but sometimes this just isn't possible

β™‘ unless your pet has veterinary needs specific to feeding, I offer quantities based on recommended daily feeding amounts

β™‘ any new family pets acquired within the last six months are not covered by the food bank. Unless you can show me that you acquired said pet in genuinely unavoidable circumstances - such as inheriting the pet from elderly parents - I will not allocate food for that particular pet. This sounds harsh, but I am here to help cover existing pets & stop animals being handed in to rescue. I am not here to cover animals purchased/adopted on a whim with the knowledge that you cannot afford to feed it. * other circumstances such as sudden illness or loss of job can also be exceptional. Please speak to me so I can help *

β™‘ I do not feed any pets under the age of six months. Again, this is because I cannot support families taking on animals - especially young animals - knowing that they will struggle to feed them. There are exceptional circumstances to this rule too

β™‘ where possible, I ask that you collect your food parcel. I am a one man band with a small team of volunteers who do not get paid for their help. Whilst they are happy to cover certain distances to collect/deliver, collections are encouraged

Regardless of any situation, all communication is kept confidential. Unless I feel that you or your animal is at risk, nobody will know that you have spoken to me. Before I pass details on to a volunteer, I will always check that you are happy with this.

Donations of food are always welcome, as well as cat litter, treats bedding & towels. Please make sure items are in usable condition.

πŸ₯° as always, thank you for supporting the Tiptree Pet Food Bank. I have just over 30 families on the books currently, many of whom would have to give up their pets without food bank support πŸ₯°

πŸŽ„ Merry Christmas everyone πŸŽ„

The biggest of thank you's from the foodbank, which wouldn't exist without the support it receives, both locally & further afield. There was a time i feared it would have to close due to storage issues; now I have an individual unit that is perfect & the rent is covered until February's installment is due πŸ₯°

Pets are so very important & i especially would be lost without mine. We have a wonderful variety, totaling roughly 54 in number πŸ™ˆ every single one of them brings value to mine & my family's lives & the ones that can be will be celebrated tomorrow with food & toys & just love. To know that the foodbank has been able to secure that feeling for other family pets this year is heart warming ❀️

Have a fabulous day celebrating however you do. To those of you working as I will be, stay safe & I hope people you encounter are kind to you!!
