Normally I would apologise for the language but not today. Today I am PI**ED.
I have seen several cries for help recently with pet food, and I have also seen some people with sticks so far up their arses they can't help being judgemental & rude π€
A few facts for you;
* the majority of people who need my help are WORKING families. With TWO working adults in the household
* the number of people using foodbanks in the UK is at an all time high, and the majority of them are WORKING families!!
* rescue groups are crumbling around us with demand. People handing dogs over or in some cases simply abandoning them because they cannot afford to care for them properly
* it is incredibly difficult to rehome an animal that has no vices & is deemed the 'perfect' pet - this means that pets with issues such as separation anxiety, reactivity or other issues are less likely to find new homes
* anybody that works in animal rescue would prefer an animal to be left alone for 8 hours a day at home where they know the routine, than to be in rescue kennels for 23 hours a day on their own surrounded by chaos
* a happy, contented, adult dog will sleep on average for 12-14 hours a day - if a dog's needs are met fully, they will rest for the majority of the day. Puppies & older dogs require even more sleep!
Please, if you see someone calling for help with their pets, tag me. Don't be like the people I am constantly seeing who make judgemental comments about the owner not working hard enough...not having their priorities straight...not caring about their pet. I have 50+ pets (a large number are inverts) that take priority along with my children; pay day consists of food shopping, clothing shopping if needed, then pet food restock. Sometimes my animals have to have less 'good' stuff & have to make do. Is it ideal? Nope. Does it work? Yep. Does it make me a bad owner? I mean, if anyone wants to rehome a neurotic staff, a hyper shih tzu, a sassy pony & a d***y horse....alongside a snake, chameleon, tortoise, hamster, gecko, scorpion & spiders...thinking they can do better...come on over.
Don't be a judgemental prick. Don't assume you know the situation. Don't call someone a bad owner because they need help. If you don't want to help, that's fine. Just don't make people feel any worse than I promise they already do π
