Our close friends at Brockswood Animal Sanctuary are going through an absolutely devastating time following the recent storms!

The damage has been far worse than anyone could have anticipated. Animal homes have collapsed, including newer structures designed to cope with snow, and animals have had to be urgently moved to keep them safe. The team are exhausted, heartbroken, and now operating in full survival mode while they stabilise what they can.

They have been overwhelmed by kindness already, and a lot of people have asked how they can help in practical ways. I have spoken to them directly, and these are the things that would make the biggest immediate difference right now.

They urgently need timber and building materials to help repair and rebuild damaged housing. Treated wood is especially helpful as it saves them a job when it arrives. Posts are usually 4x6, but honestly anything usable would be gratefully received. Feather boarding, particularly longer lengths that can be cut down, and mesh for enclosures or repairs would also be incredibly useful.

Work gloves are also needed for volunteers who are helping on site. People are working long hours in freezing, difficult conditions, and keeping hands protected is really important.

They can also accept extra straw and shavings for bedding. With many animals now being kept indoors for longer periods, beds will need cleaning and replacing far more often to keep everyone dry, warm, and comfortable.

If you are able to donate materials, help source supplies, or share this post with someone who might be able to help, it would mean so much. Even small things add up in situations like this.

If you’re taking your beloved pooches out in snowy weather to give their paws a wash when you get home to remove the salt and grit that is used by many places when the conditions are icy ❣️

💜 A Moment for All the Heroes on Four (and Two!) Legs 🐴🕊️
On this Remembrance Day, we honour the incredible bravery and sacrifice of our service members.
These unsung heroes had no choice, yet they showed up and gave everything:
• 🐴 Horses & Mules: The absolute backbones of war, hauling heavy guns, supplies, and the wounded over impossibly rough terrain. Imagine the strength and loyalty.
• 🐶 Dogs: From sniffing out danger (bombs/gas) to delivering messages and, most importantly, giving a little bit of comfort and sanity in the trenches. They were the best companions.
• 🐦 Pigeons: Our original airmail! These feathered couriers flew through literal storms of bullets to get vital messages where they needed to go. Many were awarded medals for their insane bravery.
• 🐈 Cats: Keeping vermin away from precious rations and, even better, just being a warm, purring presence for soldiers far from home. A little bit of normal in the chaos.
They stood, flew, and ran alongside our troops, experiencing the horrors of war right along with them but without the understanding of why.
It’s a powerful reminder of the incredible bond between humans and animals.
When you see a poppy today, maybe give a little nod to the animals, too.
They deserve to be remembered. ❤️

Well it’s the end of an era!

I have been on the Kennel Club’s Good Citizen Training Gold display team for almost five years showcasing the scheme for good owners at both Crufts in Birmingham and Discover Dogs in London

This was our team’s final year but wow what a fabulous few years it has been!

Lazarus and Vier have always been superstars and this year our dachshund Ignatius joined the event and even won £5 for treats stopping on the money ☺️

I also took our long haired black German shepherd Ezekiel for day out on the Thursday
