All enquires: Val Atkin 07505 351617 Jacob's Den is a new not-for-profit organisation that aims to Develop, Enhance and Nurture wellbeing through horses for children, young people and also those with additional needs or mental health challenges in our community. We follow HETI guidelines for the welfare of all our horses and most of our horses originally came to us from welfare organisations or ha

ve been donated to us from homes where they could no longer be cared for. Our Centre is run by Val Atkin and our volunteers. Val has been an SEND and also mainstream teacher for 30 years. Val has owned horses for over 40 years, has trained with the RDA and is a qualified UKCC Pony Club Coach. All our sessions are non-riding and no experience is necessary. We already run HAF activities for SEND children in the school holidays and we can now open our gates to others in our community. We offer bespoke family/group activities from £15 and also a Saturday morning club runs between 10:30 and 1pm every week which is £15.

!!!Meet our newest recruits!!! Such a busy week at our new site. A visit from the Woodland Trust helped plan our ‘horse friendly’ tree and re- wilding sites. We have also purchased coups for ‘rescue’ chickens from battery farms so lots more jobs for our visitors to do. We haven’t quite got it ready for the horses yet but we are very excited to introduce our two new recruits- Stan and Eddie - who are already being trained at our new site to be therapy dogs. They will love meeting all the children and young people ❤️❤️❤️

!!! BEAU IS FIT TO BURST WITH OUR EXCITING NEWS !!! We are so pleased to tell you that from 1st February 2026 we are moving to a brand new location for Jacob’s Den CIC- but not too far away!! Our new safe, spacious site is securely set in beautiful Lincolnshire countryside close to Metheringham. This fantastic news means that not only will we be able to continue our provision for SEND / SEMH children and young people and those in Local Authority Care, but we will also be able to expand on and enhance this with additional provision. Please bear with us as we may have to pause some sessions temporarily whilst our horses and ponies settle into their new environment and we have time to get everything ready. By the 1st April we aim to be running on full power again …and soon more… and we have already got the good weather booked for then!! ☀️😎☀️Please follow our page for further news and updates 😊❤️

Day 11 and 12 meet DEL AND RODNEY TROTTER!!!! We are very excited to tell you that Del (aka Oliver) and Rodney have come to live at Jacob’s Den. They will be enhancing the work we do by introducing carriage riding for the SEND and SEMH young people we support and also those in L.A. Care. We are hoping to extend the drives to others in our local community, with all proceeds to go to Jacob’s Den CIC 🎄🎄🎄HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! 🎄🎄🎄

Day 10 of our Christmas ponies is Romeo and although he is our smallest, he is not called a pony but a miniature horse as everything about him is in scale with a horse many times his size- and he thinks he is!!. Romeo lives up to his name as he is so very handsome and was Miniature Horse National Champion when younger. As you can see from his photos, like Nox, he has changed colour over the years. Romeo is a very talented jumper and very agile- he is amazing at our obstacle courses. We are hoping to extend his talents soon by teaching him to pull a carriage!! 😊🎄🎄🎄

Day 9 is Blue Cross Nox. Nox is Latin for night, and she was named this due to her jet black colour when she was rescued as a foal. Nox came to us soon after, a tiny bundle of black fur but now, five years later, she is a very different colour and will eventually go ‘white’ although white horses are still called grey. It is very unusual for a horse to be born white/grey but a faulty gene causes horses to grey very prematurely. Nox loves water and tries to splash all the water out of the buckets quicker than they can be filled. Nox is a sassy girl and can be bossy with the much bigger boys, despite her tiny size. Watch out for cuteness overload with our smallest resident tomorrow before we share our exciting news with you on Christmas Eve!! 😊🎄🎄🎄

Day 8 is Hero. We are often offered ponies who come with health problems but Hero’s were severe. Our farrier threw his arms up in despair when he saw the state of his hooves and suggested we put a limit on how much we could spend on vet bills before enough was enough. That limit came and went many times but, with daily medications and a strict diet, Hero is now a happy, healthy pony. What we have given to him in care he has repayed us many times over as he is the kindest gentlest, pony who looks after every child with care who chooses him. We all need a Hero sometimes ❤️🎄🎄🎄

Day 7 is Woody. Woody would be every child’s best friend. He is super-gentle, friendly and calm. When he first came to us he never wanted to be caught but now he waits ready and looks forward to whatever is planned. He especially likes going out to visit schools and fetes. Woody struggles a little bit with his tummy - a bit like human IBS- but after exploring lots of different diets and advice from our vet we have found one that suits him. Woody has his special friends who always pick him- and he knows who they are! 🤣🎄🎄🎄

Day 5 and Day 6 of our Christmas countdown go together- as it’s Princess and Colours who came all the way from Canada together, Princess in a crate and Colours in a bag (according to their passports). They have been with us a few years as their owner was unable to keep them due to health reasons. Colours thinks Princess is his Mum as he has been with her all his life but as he weighs in at 180kg and Princess 700kg this is unlikely 🤣 Some of our visitors need a stool to reach Princess!! Princess is our matriarch and can be quite bossy, especially with the other horses but she LOVES attention and to be scratched and cuddled. Colours’ favourite thing is jumping. His least favourite think is to be clean- he hates having a bath and always rolls straight afterwards to get mucky again!! 🎄🎄🎄

Day number 4 is RSPCA Remus (Remy). Remy is just a beautiful soul inside and out and has the most gentle nature. He will sometimes sit in the paddock and just watch the world go by. Remy came to us as a very nervous two year old during Covid and had suffered a really awful start to his life. His bestie, Hamilton, came to us a few months later from another RSPCA yard and the two boys were best friends immediately. We then found out that they had once been at the same RSPCA centre and horses never forget- they have excellent memories- so the bad as well as the good times and people will stay with them forever. We hope all Remy’s memories will now be the best ones ❤️🎄🎄🎄
