NO DOG DIED FROM MISSING A WALK.

Swap out the walk in the heat for an indoor activity to keep your dogs cool.

🌟 Use puzzle toys to keep dogs mentally stimulated.
🌟 Use frozen treats for enrichment and a cool snack - a frozen carrot makes an excellent cool chew or freeze a Kong stuffed with mashed sweet potato or dog safe peanut butter.
🌟 Carry out nose work games by hiding treats around your house and encourage your dog to sniff them out.
🌟 Work on training some new tricks or practicing commands for mental stimulation and to strengthen your bond.

Let us know your favourite indoor activity with your own dogs in the comments!

Update from Rhiannon:

5 of 12 half marathons complete ✅🏃‍♀️

Chester Half Marathon done… and WOW, Chester really turned up. Around 8,000 runners took part, which meant it felt like I’d already completed a half marathon just trying to get to the start line.

The day began with me making the tactical error of “extra hydration” beforehand… only to arrive and discover the toilets at the racecourse were locked 😳 Cue panic. Thankfully I eventually made it to the glamorous portaloo village just in time. Truly living the dream. It must be a good cause.

The race itself was going suspiciously well until the final 3 miles turned into what felt like an uphill trek across the Himalayas. Absolute slog 😅

Massive shoutout to my running partner Hannah, who somehow completed the whole thing despite having a chest infection. Honestly superhuman behaviour.

The good news is I’m definitely getting better at pacing now… and I officially own a running watch! Very professional. Although it keeps telling me my sleep score is terrible, which feels slightly unfair considering there’s not much I can do about it while unconscious.
As I’m not exactly tall, the bright orange finisher top now makes me look less like an athlete and more like an overexcited traffic cone 🚧🧡

5 down, 7 to go. If you can donate to this very worthy cause, I’d really appreciate it ❤️

Nurse consults are all about supporting pets and their owners both in the consult room and beyond 🩺🐾

From everyday essentials like nail clips, medication administration, post-operative check ups and second vaccinations, to more tailored support, veterinary nurses play a key role in preventative care and ongoing wellbeing.

At Acorn we're proud to offer a range of nurse-led clinics designed to give pets the best start and support them throughout every life stage. These include:
🐶 Socialisation clinics to help build confidence in nervous dogs
🐾 Weight clinics to support a healthy weight and lifestyle
💛 Senior pet wellness clinics aimed at identifying earlier signs of disease so we can intervene sooner and improve long-term outcomes

Nurse consults are a chance to ask questions, get advice and ensure your pet is thriving - because great care doesn't stop with the vet.

Monitoring anaesthesia is a vital part of veterinary nursing - it requires skill, focus and constant vigilance 🩺🐾

During any procedure, our vet nurses carefully track key parameters including heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, blood pressure and anaesthetic depth. Subtle changes can happen quickly, and it's our job to spot them early and respond to keep our patients safe and stable.

It's not just about watching the monitor - it's about understanding what they mean, recognising trends, and advocating for the patient at every stage of their anaesthetic. From pre-medication checks to recovery, vet nurses play a critical role in ensuring the highest standard of care.

This Vet Nurse Awareness Month we want to celebrate the knowledge, dedication and attention to detail that goes into every anaesthetic we monitor 💚

The very handsome Kenzo came in to see vet Erin for his first vaccinations 🥰 🐾

Vaccinations protect your cat from serious and potentially life threatening diseases. Even indoor cats can be at risk, as infectious can be brought inside by people on our clothes and shoes.

Keeping your cat's vaccinations up to date helps protect their long-term health and prevents spread of disease to other pets 💉

If you need to book your cat's vaccinations call us on 0151 625 9916 and press option 3 to speak to reception 📞
