The sun made a rare appearance this afternoon during a Let out and Play session with the fabulous four: Ginny, Dobby, Fen and Fizz. 🌞 You know winter is officially over when the whippets are happy to stay out for as long as possible. They're a canine barometer! 😂 🐾🌡️

🐶🌿 UK Dog Walkers – It’s Tick Season! 🌿🐶

I swear these posts happen earlier each year!!🫣

Do you love long walks in the countryside with your dog? Unfortunately, so do ticks... 🪳

Ticks are common across the UK, especially in:
🌲 Woodlands
🌾 Long grass & meadows
🏞️ Moorland & countryside paths
🐑 Areas with deer or livestock

They can carry diseases like Lyme disease, so it’s important to stay vigilant.

🔎 After every walk:
✔️ Check your dog’s ears, neck, armpits, groin & between toes
✔️ Feel for small lumps while stroking their coat
✔️ Remove ticks promptly with a proper tick removal tool (twist, don’t pull!)
✔️ Avoid burning, squeezing or covering with substances

🛡️ Prevention matters:
Speak to your vet about tick prevention treatments suited to your dog.

If your dog seems lethargic, lame, feverish, or off their food after a tick bite — contact your vet ASAP!

A quick 60 second check after each walk can ensure the safety of your best friend 🐶💕

Let's share wide and far to keep as much dogs safe for these horrible little beasties 🪳🦠

I probably enjoy talking to Miz's mum just as much as I do walking Miz, even if the conversation is about an overpriced vet appointment (hopefully, the new vet sector reforms will make the system fairer). Miz, on the other hand, has no time for politics. Every day, he manages to steal the show 🤩🐾

This morning, I texted my client: "I have a cancellation this afternoon, are you happy to move Trigger's walk back to 12pm?" ⏱️
"Of course, no problem" she said.
As soon as I walk through the kitchen door at 12pm, there's a torrential downpour. Coat, bag and trousers - everything soaked through! ☔
No matter what the weather - or the mood - this guy has a permanent smile on his face. It's pretty much guaranteed - or your money back! There really is no such thing as a bad day for Trigg 😊🐾.

Everyone knows I'm a huge Traitors fan. So imagine my excitement when the BBC release Traitors Ireland with Siobhan McSweeney, who walks onto set, flanked by four Irish wolfhounds. 'Now that would make an epic show reel for a dog walking business' I commented to a friend. 'Not so epic when you return home, covered in mud... and GOD KNOWS what else!' she sniffed. I have to agree. While I'm definitely not going to win awards for style and presentation, my passion and lifelong commitment to animals (and their humans!) more than makes up for all the mess. Who needs a designer outfit, when you've got the best job in the world?

It's more than just sniffing!!! Top 5 reasons why scent work is so good for your dog:

1. Mental Stimulation (It’s Brain Work!)
Sniffing is mentally exhausting in a healthy way. Just 10–15 minutes of scent work can tire your dog out as much as a long walk. It engages problem-solving skills and focus.

2. Builds Confidence
Because dogs work independently and use their strongest sense, scent work helps shy, anxious, or reactive dogs gain confidence.

3. Strengthens Your Bond
Your role is to observe and reward, not control. This teamwork builds trust and communication between you and your dog.

4. Provides a Healthy Outlet
High-energy dogs especially benefit from having a “job.” Scent work channels natural hunting instincts into a structured activity instead of unwanted behaviors like digging or barking.

5. Reduces Stress
Sniffing naturally lowers a dog’s heart rate and stress levels. It’s a calming activity that helps regulate emotions.

Today, we battled on through 25 mph winds, rain and endless pools of mud. For the very first time this year, I was cursing the weather (and it takes a lot to break my patience). Max on the other hand... Well these pictures just speak for themselves! He also returned home with a glorious report card after helping with the clean up operation!

A blustery wild adventure session with Charlie today, who bravely ploughed on through the sleet. I very nearly forgot the kissing gate that leads back through the pastoral fields, near Buntingsdale Woods. It's a wonderful route for local dog walkers (as long as dogs are kept on short lead while sheep are grazing).

Dex loves a good sniff around the local 'hood, whilst keeping at a good pace throughout. As the sun made a rare appearance today, we just couldn't resist a walk (and a sneaky roll!) on the field. 🐾
