Since my post about the opening next week of our salt therapy stable I have had a lot of wonderful support and questions asked so thought I would explain more about it …..

What Is Sea Salt Therapy?

Equine salt therapy is a 100% natural, drug-free treatment designed to support respiratory health, enhance recovery, and improve skin condition in horses. Used alongside veterinary care, this complementary therapy helps reduce inflammation, clear excess mucus from the lungs, and support overall respiratory function.

Medically approved Dead Sea salt, enriched with natural minerals and magnesium, is dispersed into the atmosphere as a fine vapour. These microscopic salt particles are inhaled by the horse and absorbed through the skin, helping to:

* Neutralise free radicals
* Support healthy cell metabolism
* Enhance immune function
* Balance the autonomic nervous system
* Promote faster recovery times

Benefits of Equine Salt Therapy

Respiratory Support & Mucus Clearance

Inhaled salt particles help loosen and break down excess mucus within the airways, making it easier for the horse to clear congestion naturally. This can improve breathing efficiency and support healthier lung function.

Natural Anti-Inflammatory Action

Salt therapy acts as a natural antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antihistamine treatment. It can help soothe inflamed airways, assist in the management of mild equine asthma, and maximise oxygen absorption for improved stamina and endurance.

Pathogen Reduction

By helping remove airborne irritants and pathogens from the respiratory system, salt therapy may support increased energy levels, performance, and overall wellbeing.

Enhanced Lung Capacity & Performance

Clear airways are essential for performance horses. Racehorses can inhale up to 60 litres of air per minute during exercise, making respiratory efficiency critical. Dry salt therapy assists in clearing mucus and congestion, helping optimise airflow and respiratory performance.

Skin & Coat Health

Salt therapy can also provide significant benefits for the skin and coat. The microscopic salt particles settle onto the horse’s skin and coat, where their natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help soothe irritation and support healing.

Salt therapy may help relieve conditions such as:

* Sweet itch
* Mud fever
* Dermatitis
* Minor skin irritations and inflammation

Additional skin benefits include:

* Balancing the skin’s natural pH
* Reducing itching and irritation
* Supporting healing of damaged skin
* Helping prevent bacterial and fungal infections
* Stimulating microcirculation to encourage natural hair regrowth

As a completely natural and drug-free treatment, salt therapy can safely be used alongside topical treatments or veterinary interventions without concerns regarding competition restrictions.

Typical Treatment Protocols

Initial Cleanse

For horses with deeper respiratory congestion or significant skin irritation, we typically recommend an initial cleanse of 3–5 consecutive sessions.

Maintenance Treatments

Following the initial cleanse, maintenance generally consists of:

* One session every four weeks, or
* Occasional “pick-me-up” sessions before or after competition or racing to help maintain optimal respiratory function.

How the Treatment Works

Horses stand unrugged in a specialised salt therapy stable for up to 45 minutes while microscopic particles of medically graded Dead Sea salt, magnesium, and minerals are gently dispersed into the air.

The treatment is calm, non-invasive, and designed to create a relaxing environment for your horse while supporting respiratory and skin health.

Pricing

* Single Session: £35
* Initial 3-Day Cleanse: £90

If anyone has 5 minutes to spare could you help Amelia with her dissertation 🙏

Hi there,

I hope you’re doing well. My name is Amelia and I’m a final‑year Veterinary Physiotherapy student at Harper Adams University. I’m currently working on my dissertation, which explores horse owners’ views on the use of equine water treadmills (EWT).

I’m trying to reach more people who actively use water treadmills, and I wondered if you might be willing to help. If possible, I’d be incredibly grateful if you could complete my short survey, share it with any clients who use your treadmill, or even post it on your social media pages. Any support would make a difference to my research.

The survey takes less than 5 minutes and all responses are anonymous.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. If you have any questions about the project, I’m more than happy to chat.

Best wishes,
Amelia

Wishing all our clients a very happy and successful 2026
