✨ The Power of Clear Communication in Dog Training ✨
One of the biggest game-changers in my training sessions is using reward-specific markers.
Rather than one generic reward cue, different markers tell your dog exactly what reward is coming next:
🐾 A toy reward
🐾 A food reward
🐾 Food delivered with movement and excitement
🐾 Calm food reinforcement delivered in position
Why does this matter?
Because clarity creates confidence. When dogs know exactly how they’re being rewarded, they can focus on learning instead of guessing.
Recently, I’ve been working with Dutton, who is a wonderfully enthusiastic and highly excitable dog. By using clear reward markers and carefully reinforcing calm choices, we’ve been able to build more thoughtful, controlled behaviours without dampening his enthusiasm.
Clear reward systems help prevent:
